Organizational climate is defined as the patterns and of environmental determinants that arouse motivation, and it explains why people in an organization feel more or less motivated when performing professional responsibilities (Stringer, 2002). In a unit I previously worked in, tasks were divided based on one’s preference and specialization. I could see that nurses enjoyed administering care to patients because they were involved in the decision-making process by the charge nurse. A well-performing department was also awarded incentives and educational seminars to appreciate their efforts. The nurse manager couldn’t fail to fascinate me by the way he acted with all employees. He did not use his position to intimidate others and prioritized the needs of the staff, and always made us know that the way you motivate your team is directly proportional to outcomes. Litwin & Stringer (2018) stated that attitudes, behavior, and communication strategies employed in an organization affect worker motivation.
Managing workplace issues such as conflicts, motivation, discrimination, and scheduling requires leaders to involve their workers in every step of decision-making. For instance, conflict resolution requires leaders to be open-minded in listening to both parties’ complaints and assertiveness in the decision after establishing the cause of the problem. Effective communication skills within an organization improve interdisciplinary collaborations and encourage employees to express their views at liberty (Litwin & Stringer, 2018). I have always encouraged new staff and student practitioners to consult in areas they aren’t confident with because our staff are always willing to help. Nursing is a collaborative career, and we need to accept that we are not fully complete without other professionals
Staff motivation is another action a manager should employ to ensure quality patient outcomes. They should recognize staff efforts with a little as appreciating them verbally. Research evidence states that happy and satisfied workers perform well in their jobs. Therefore, managers or employees should seek to promote a positive work environment by creating a continuous effective communication system and understanding employees’ needs to nurture their growth and development.
