7789NURSING RESEARCH & EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE
Evidence-based practice has been a useful approach in the decision-making process applied by clinicians to inform their decisions about overall patient care. Every day in the clinical setting, we encounter problems, questions, and patient needs requiring effective clinical choices to make a breakthrough. The best approach is to turn to evidence-based research, including journals and articles, which contains steps and procedures of handling different issues in the clinical setting. Research confirms that patient outcome generally improves when nurses engage in an evidence-based approach. In my readings, articles have provided individual needs, resources, and preferences in enhancing my clinical practice. The articles incorporate the current best practices and recommendations from well-designed studies and critical concepts enhancing clinical expertise. The articles provide critical information that improves patient outcomes, aid in providing quality care, and reduce costs by eliminating practices that are obsolete and not effective. As a nurse student, evidence-based knowledge creates room for continuous learning, and it builds clinical expertise from time to time. In some topics where there are specialty populations and patients with similar conditions, applying evidence-based research provides high-level care to the patient and improves the overall process of decision making in my clinical practice. My research in the articles could also help other nurses and students on the unit to improve overall healthcare. Nurses have the power to educate fellow staff and always serve as a great resource in helping fellow staff in enhancing improved patient outcomes and providing better healthcare. Relying on evidence-based practice encourages the reader to seek answers on issues regarding improving the effectiveness of several methods and open our eyes to exploring different things that one can do for their patients. Applying the principles and concepts in the articles creates a more understanding and realization of what, whatever e practice eliminating the conscious of whether evidence for the method exists.. This course has exposed me to several articles covering several topics in clinical nursing. The articles provide multiple recommendations for practice that could be applied in any clinical setting. The recommendations contained in the articles can be used for decision making not only in a basic clinical setting but also in other related issues affecting the healthcare system. The recommendations from different articles varied; this is because their evidence quality varies also. For example, in an article on an RCT of treatment to reduce cardiovascular problems, the researcher extracted recommendations for managing heart risks from different reputable sources on the management of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia and graded the quality of evidence refereeing to Canadian Hypertension education program grading scheme. The RCT- based recommendations are based on high quality and can be applied in a clinical domain as a resource for evidence-based research. The RCT based therapy recommendations are handy in my critical setting, and due to the underlying evidence supporting the research, it is wise to apply the recommendations. Several articles I came across avails several guidelines on the same clinical issues making it easy to have a decision on which to follow. However, the recommendations to follow are only those that are evidence-based and has employed a systematic research for high quality evidence. The best articles included empirical evidence from several controlled trials, qualitative and descriptive research, scientific principles, and expert opinion. These are the articles that provide quality evidence that can be used in any clinical practice.
