This article is quite insightful, and from it, I have learned three valuable lessons. First and foremost, managing your emotions is vital in trying to be successful in any goal. The author highlights the importance of managing emotions to be on the success ladder. Secondly, the author links successful people with high emotional intelligence. Finally, success is a combination of positive actions and emotions.

The article is truly mind-blowing for me because I always thought high IQ was the only indicator for present and future success. From the article, I now understand the importance of managing emotions and developing high emotional intelligence. Of the nine things successful people won’t do, three points struck a chord and will make an impact in my life. The first being ‘They won’t let anyone limit their joy.’ It is important to be proud of your achievements without comparing yourself to others. People will always have opinions, and one can listen to them, but it is important not to allow them to limit your joy, especially if you believe in your goal.

The second point is, ‘They won’t prioritize perfection.’ Perfection doesn’t really exist. If one always dwells on being a perfectionist, they will always complain about the smallest of details without making much progress. The third point is, ‘They won’t hang around negative people. ‘Negative people can be toxic because they only concentrate on the problems and not the solutions. If one is not careful, they can be sucked into their negative energy and cause failure to achieve one’s goals. All in all, I will try to make my decisions based on the three points and make appropriate changes, and I will learn more about emotional intelligence and try to incorporate it into my life.

From the article, I have learned that being successful, it is vital to becoming a good leader. A good leader has vision, passion, and confidence traits that are important in the business world. Secondly, in the face of uncertain markets and the economy, a strong leader is essential to steer a business in the right direction by making good judgment calls. Thirdly, some traits will harm a person in a leadership position that can crumble a business or any goal to be achieved.

The article has truly impacted my life by highlighting the traits to move away from if I am to become a good leader in any project or goal I would want to pursue now or in the future. These traits include; lack of communication, overconfidence, lack of vision, lack of empathy, not flexible, lack of discipline, refusal to take responsibility. Having even one of these traits can be damaging to one’s ability to become a good leader.

Therefore, it is important to steer clear of any of these harmful traits. In the future, I hope to become a leader in both my community and in a business entity. Hence, every decision that I take should be on the contrary of the traits highlighted by the author. I feel empowered for now that I have additional knowledge and information that would guide me on my journey of success as a leader.
