The language of the brag is a poet by Sharon Olds. The poem illustrates the power of a woman, and the desire she has over her body and sexuality, though fears hinder her success. However, in the end, Sharon acknowledges the power of a woman to bring a life that is a new person to this world, and she brags about it. In the warning her pearls by Duffy, she explores the themes of love and differences in classism.
In the language of the brag, as a woman, one wants to use her power to achieve Excellency. Just like a woman has the extraordinary ability to give birth to a new life, I have always wanted to make the best by offering humanity actions. I believe that the world should be a better place for everybody, despite once gender, race, social class, and religion. I have always endeavored to use my knowledge and perspective to challenge people in society to view the world from another angle to make the world a better place to live in. But the fear of being a young person, and a woman limits success.
In the warming of her pearls, there is classism. The servant is a poor working-class serving her working-class mistress. For instance, she wears her mistress pearls to keep them warm until she gets back home in the evening, where the mistress wears them on her pale neck. The servant is in love with the mistress, but she has kept it a secret since she fears when she expresses it, she might lose her job. Classism indifference applies in real life, where I remember I was once in love with the son of my dad’s boss. Well, we were young, and one wants to share their feeling. But in society, two lovers from the bourgeoisie and proletariat seem like the poor one is using the working class. Thus, I ended up not expressing my feelings and letting him go, to avoid unnecessary issues like my dad losing his job.
As the speaker of the language of the brag is proud of her maternal act that surpasses all other heroic acts, I relate to my current situation. I was raised in poverty and from an abusing family since childhood. I have tried to remain positive throughout my life and studied hard and attained a well-paying job. Now that I can sustain myself, I feel that there is a need to give back to society. Hence I adopted two children with a similar background as mine. All I do is provide them with the best life, education, and upbringing that I wanted. Being a parent is an unknown step of courage, but quite fulfilling, as Allan Ginsberg wanted to do. Bring a new person and rising to be a serving citizen is something one ought’s to brag.
Warming of pearls also shows the small things yet great things people do for the people they love. I remember the little things such as showing kindness and love to those we care about; however, probably those we show these acts never realize it. Small actions such as staying awake to keep friends company as they study for their exams. In the poem, the servant secretly loves and has romantic dreams about her mistress while she wears and warms her pearls. The servant willingly wears and warms her jewels, and she wishes that she would warm her pearls all through. The absence of a pearl makes her burn. She genuinely likes her servant.
