formal part definitions of management

For businesses and organizations to run smoothly and effectively, they require management to be on the steering wheel. There are three formal part definitions of management. Firstly, management is defined as a function of managing or conducting supervision within an organization or company operations. In this definition of management, managers oversee the resources of an organization both human and material, to ensure there is a good use.

Secondly, Management is formally defined as the role of using various strategies to accomplish a certain goal in a company. The strategies a manager use are geared towards to solve problems in the organization.  Lastly, Management is formally defined as collective bodies that focus on managing and directing an organization.

The definition that I choose as the most important definition of management is the use of various strategies to accomplish certain goals of the organization. The use of various strategies to solve business problems is important because it helps determine the future path of a business. Further, strategies are important because they help in finding out the opportunities a business has in the market place, and the strengths a business could use to exploit the opportunities available.

Mintzberg’s in his study of management came up with various findings of the manager’s routine work. The findings were on the role of managers in a business. After his research and study, Mintzberg found out that there are three roles of a manager in a business. He categorized the roles of a manager into three; Interpersonal role, Informational role, and decisional role.

In the interpersonal role, the managers are the figureheads in a business, they are the ones accountable for everything in the overall. Further, in the interpersonal role, the managers are the ones who create the link between the business and the outside world, they are the liaison. In the informational role, the managers are the ones who monitor the flow of information in the company; they disseminate information to the outside world and act as the spokesperson of their subordinates. Additionally in the decision role managers are the entrepreneurs, negotiators and disturbance helpers of a business.

Since Mintzbergs study in 1960, technology and social media platforms have changed the roles of managers in various ways. Firstly technology has increased access of information to the subordinates and the outside world as well and as a result manager’s information originating from managers flow faster to the targeted recipients. Further, technology has made easier for subordinates to coordinate with managers more efficiently to achieve organizational goals; this is through innovations and creativity. Social media has pulled managers to engaged and involved managers in various views as they endeavor to accomplish companies’ goals.

Also, there are two overarching views about the manager’s work Historical perspective and contemporary perspective. Historical perspective has three viewpoints a view originating from max weber who championed the idea of bureaucracy, Fredrick Taylor approach was the second viewpoint of historical management theory. Fredrick Taylor brought in the concept of a scientific management approach. Finally, In the historical theory, we had Henry Fayal’s view. Fayal introduced the idea of classical management.

Further contemporary theory of management takes into account human behavior and environmental factors. For example, the contingency view is based on unique factors. They are depending on the surrounding factors managers may respond differently over the same decision. Another contemporary theory is the system perspective. The system perspective includes theory, transformation, and output.

In conclusion, the points of management theories are applied in production, employee relations, and customer relations. Application of management theory viewpoints enables organizations sections to function seamlessly. Further applications of management theories enable managers to be consistently effective in the day to day activities.
