Critical Review of Benchmark Innovation Lab
Benchmark innovation lab is a project that was established by Benchmark school. The innovation was designed so that it can help students develop skills that will help them in solving problems. All credit should go to the founder of Benchmark school way back in the 1970s; the founder was Irene Gaskins. Gaskins founded the school because she believed that every child had the potential to excel (Benchmark School). Benchmark school is credited by many for transforming the lives of many students who have gone through the systems established in the school (Benchmark School). Benchmark innovation is dedicated to ensuring that students develop self-confidence when faced with any challenges in life.
Bill and Chris Sharples founded the benchmark Innovation Lab, the two are globally known architects. The two brothers founded Shop Architects that was designed to provide diversity when it comes to expertise that leads to the improvement in the quality of public life (Benchmark School). The two brothers are Alumni of Benchmark School and, therefore, took it upon themselves to make sure that inspire others because the school made positive differences in their lives (Benchmark School). The pride of the school and being able to inspire others is what the innovation Lab is targeting among other students.
The innovation lab is hosted by Benchmark school, which is located in Media, Pennsylvania, which lies southwest of Philadelphia. The school is a privately owned institution, and Ralph wales head it in an interim position (Benchmark School). With problems in the world increasing daily, the Innovation Lab positions itself to provide sustainability through creativity by equipping students with skills through digital literacy (Benchmark School). It is the 21st century, and every issue now globally is tackled by the use of technology. The project at Benchmark school helps students to keep pace with the changing speeds in the tech world.
Real-world problems guide the project. The Innovation Lab helps students develop critical and position themselves on how they may solve problems whenever they arise. Just like engineering, real-world problems are centered on the needs of the user. Therefore, engineers are better at providing solutions that humans are facing (Benchmark School). The projects teach students how to research so that they can uncover problems and provide solutions effectively. The project has a significant influence on the final design of the product because the students will be able to design solutions based on the needs of an individual.
The idea of fabrication affected the project because it matched the quality expectations of the project. The process was well implemented, and that is why the project has met its goals and objectives. The project has had great success due to the coordinated performance among the entire project team. They have been able to deliver satisfaction because it understands the needs of their students, and it meets their expectations satisfactorily. What has fascinated the most about Benchmark innovation school is being able to come up with a project that targets students with dyslexia. Not many institutions can the patience of putting up with students who have got difficulty when it comes to learning. Appreciating such learning differences is what has even made the school become a finalist in the Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards for 2019 in the Learning category.
