Social media as part of many professionals
Social media is among the things that have become part of many professionals. In social media platforms, there are many types of activities that go on, such as conversations, trends in fashions, political talks, and many more. I am a nurse, and I have also joined many social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and even twitter. These platforms consist of many people in the world. The language used by social media users is rarely professional. Not only the language, but even the posts that are on these platforms are not professional. In my account on Facebook, I have posted pictures of my friends and I. I also like posting pictures of kids, and I realized that this was not good. Since I could see my friends post memes about nurses and other essential things about the profession. And also, I have reacted to a different post on these platforms.
I always react bitterly to a post that is promoting racism. For instance, there was a case on facebook, where a white police officer had killed a black boy. According to my understanding and the storyline provided, I could not view these as an accident. Also, another act was not good, whereby people were reposting the body of the innocent black boy. That was a bad idea as it will continue causing pain to the family of the dead boy when they see the picture. This idea of reposting the image could even cost me my leadership and also how I responded to the act that the police officers did.
Upholding standard ethical values is one of the roles that nurses should perform. Nurses are supposed to protect the information of all the patients, including those that they know. And since nurses know about different people’s illnesses, they are not supposed in any case to tell any person about the person’s condition. All nurses are supposed to follow the HIPAA information privacy act, which states that the primary goal of a nurse is to help the patients and to protect their information. It will be unethical for any nurse to post on their social media platforms a patient, to show the public about the signs of certain diseases such as cancer. Nurses have these responsibilities as they are recognized to be higher than the dentists in the society
There is the various post that I have on my social media platforms that reflect the Christian values that I have. For instance, I post prayers for patients on my social media platforms. Also, I post bible verses that are encouraging, and they give hope to the patients that God is the supreme being, and he will relieve them of the pain. Also, I post how people can practice human values such as caring for needy, donating food, and even how to take care of the sick. Also, on my facebook page, I have created it In a way that one can view our church service from my facebook page. By doing this, I help the patients who are in hospitals to get the word of the day and to get hope that they will be healed.
