Leading Change with Data and Collaboration
Who you are and the specialization expertise you represent on Mayor Keller’s task force?
I am an Assistant Principal of Grand City School, working in collaboration with the director of early childhood programs. In Mayor Keller’s task force, I am posted at Grand City Elementary. The primary reason why I joined the task force is to help the children succeed in their education programs. I believe that the reason for early childhood is to provide children with the opportunity to have equal and quality education and the opportunity to explore their potentials. Guidera (n.d.) pointed out that a high-quality early childhood classroom is vital to a child’s self-esteem, self-help skills, social interactions, and a child’s personal and mental growth; I believe that a child will learn best by feeling safe and secure in their classroom or learning environment. As an Assistant Principal of Grand City School, I will ensure that the children get the best as they grow into a brighter future.
The importance of being an educational agent of change
Halgunseth, Peterson, Stark & Moodie (2009) noted that being an educational agent of change helps solve various challenges that many families face. Early childhood educators have the responsibility to help children and their families to curb obstacles and stressors they face. They give support to families facing financial problems, social challenges, and assist family members with emotional and psychological issues. Gordon et al. (2013) stated that to be supportive, we need to work together with the families to promote change, growth, and development. Educators should not pause and only assist when families seek it out. Support should be continuously provided to keep parents abreast. Educational agents of change should not tire but deliver continuous support and design a healthy environment for children learning. Rationale: Being an educational agent and dealing with the kids requires self-sacrifice, and therefore an individual should be motivated from the inside, not with the rewards.
Why you believe collecting and interpreting data is essential to the role of educational leader of change
Critical analysis of early childhood data helps the educators to understand students’ academic performance. The data supports the educators in evaluating the student’s progress and measure learning based gains. Also, successful data-driven decision making relies on how the data is used and analyzed, how the data is stored and kept, and how the is collected and what data will be collected.
Rationale: Early childhood data helps in assessment to determine if the children qualify for the programs. The evaluation also provides a general overview of a child’s ability and achievement in self-help skills, cognition, language, fine and gross motor skills, and social/emotional development.
Why data-informed decision making is essential for a collaborative group to initiate and implement plans for educational and community change and the rationale.
As noted earlier, the assessment of data provides an accurate reflection of students’ progress both in and out of class. Assessments and data provide a systematic way to inform students, teachers, parents, policymakers, and other essential stakeholders about student performance (Elicker & McMullen, 2014) and then determine the next steps within this process. With the current technology used in education, parents can access their children’s performance through observation of data.
Rationale: In case of or problem and need to work with parents to solve it, you will need to schedule an initial referral conference; depending on the nature of the referral planned; you may call upon the principal, social worker, or other professional stakeholders to assist you with this conference regarding the assessment results.
An explanation of at least two evidence-based leadership strategies you would employ to create positive social change in your field
Ass the assistant principal, I would use transactional management theory and behavioral theory, which forwards that people can learn and train to be leaders by observation.
Summarize the key points of your presentation
It is recommended that early childhood programs should be expanded and integrated with current technology to improve learning processes. Interactions between educators, community, and Taskforce team need to be maximized by early childhood funding sources such as NAEYC, the Division of Child Development and Early Age Education for better learner’s performance.
