Introduction

Politics have the ability to control events in the world today. Moreover, many countries are controlled by opinions that are made by politicians, especially when looking for a solution to a certain problem. Generally, there are different political issues that have affected the United States today. These political issues include; Free speech, immigration, gun control, student loans, terrorism, social security, and Medicare. These issues have affected the growth of the economy and the political stability of the country. The following paper will answer the following questions such as; What is the most important political issue? Why? In what ways has the American political system been succeeding/failing to deal with that issue? Why? Which theory, concept, and/or idea is most relevant for explaining such successes/failures? What should be done, and why?

Notably, the most important political issue is gun control. Gun policy is one of the most controversial topics that are discuses in the United States today. The problem is that people have begun using guns for their benefit and not according to the second Amendment. As a result, there has been gun violence where there has been a mass shooting of innocent people. One of the most painful moments in the United States is when there was a mass shooting that happened in different schools, and many children were killed and injured by their fellow students. Some experts attest that the student who performed the act was under the influence of drugs or was mentally ill. Generally, The United States has been termed as one of the countries with the highest number of mass shootings and violence in schools today. The first school shooting in the United States took place in 1764, where out of 13 children that enrolled in Pontiac Rebellion School, only three survived the massacre. According to the statistics, school shooting has increased by about 19% in the 21st century (Cook, 2018). Despite schools using millions of money to invest in security, there is still tension to parents, teachers, stakeholders, and students thinking every day that they are going to be attacked by gunmen. The recent reports show that most of the gunmen are students that study in the same school that they choose to attack because they need attention. A series of attacks that have happened forced America to focus its attention on the problem forming a dramatic change in security-related procedures and policies. On the other hand, since the permission was granted in 1998 to 2018 in the United States of owning firearms, there have been a lot of mass kills, especially with the use of semi-automatic machine guns. This has been one of the most tragic moments for the citizens of the United States because they have the fear that owning firearms have increased the levels of crime. This means that if a lot of people get hold of machine guns, then the death rate will rise compared to the recent cases.

Additionally, the government has tried to manage the case of gun control by introducing the second amendment, but it has not worked the way it should, thus violating the constitution of the United States. Generally, when the second amendment was formed, the aim was to protect the citizens of America by giving them the right to own firearms (Cook, 2018). However, according to the present conditions, people are using guns to commit suicide, and using semi-automatic to make mass killing has been seen as actions that have violated the first purpose if the second amendment. Basically, the second amendment does not control the misuse of guns because of the high rate of crime that is rising in the United States. Therefore, the purpose of the literature review is to give evidence that the Gun Control of Automatic Weapons has violated the second amendment of the United States Constitution. According to the Missouri Law Review shows that the Gun Control of Automatic Weapons has violated the second amendment of the United States Constitution. According to this review, most of the decisions that have been made about gun control have majorly been driven by political and emotional factors (Williams, 2017). This means that it is not based on the scientific finding that shows that the American people are in more danger without the protection of the authorities. However, the government still believes that the ownership of guns will help reduce the rate of crimes around the United States, which is contrary to what is happening today. About 10% of the people that own guns have been associated with 35% of the increase of crimes in the United States. Despite some of the states not allowing the use of machine guns, it has been a great fear that it may affect them, especially when used in committing crimes. According to the Missouri Law Review, the Second Amendment should be interpreted as a law that majorly protects the rights of individuals from citizens having access to machine guns for personal protection.

According to individual rights theory, gun control policy is one of the significant ways that seem to have a huge effect on reducing crimes in the United States. It is the mandate of the government to protect its citizens from killing each other because of the misuse of guns. However, there are no policies made to go against the Second Amendment. As a result, the government is using the Gun Control of Automatic Weapons to violate the second amendment of the United States Constitution, whereby they leave the work of protection to their citizens. The United States is one of the largest countries to have personal owned guns for personal protection. Moreover, there are about 120.5 guns per 100 residents meaning that guns are more than the citizens of America (Spitzer, 2017). The authorities of the United States say that sometimes crimes happen and cause more damage to the victims because the police officers are far from the crime; thus, they come late when the people who have committed crimes are gone. However, this reason has made it easy for some of the citizens to invest in the heavy machine guns that can cause more damage than normal guns. On the other hand, when people with machine guns fail to protect themselves, the people committing the crime can take advantage of taking the machine guns for their personal use, which makes it more dangerous to other innocent people (Mavis, Megan and Matthew, 2019). The National Rifle Association (NRA) has made an effort to make sure that specific people have the right to purchase and keep machine guns as trophies. Additionally, the NRA has made an effort to support some gun restrictions whereby the association does not believe in general ownership of firearms. However, some people with machine guns in their homes can be affected by mental illness, thus becoming a danger to themselves and those around them. This can pose a massive threat to a multitude of people of the United States, even to the authorities.

As a result, some policies should be made to make sure that people do not harm themselves more than protecting themselves. The first policy should be to make sure that there is no buying or selling of automatic weapons to any citizen of the United States, whether for sport or trophy. This policy will be effective in reducing mass killings that may happen in the future, especially in schools and malls. The second policy should be that all the manufactures of guns should be prohibited from making any automatic weapon, and the government should have their productions that only make automatic weapons for the army. This policy will help the government to monitor and know the citizens that have automated machine guns that can be harmful to the citizens. The third policy should be that manufactures should have regulations on the number of guns they need to produce in a year and be sold to specific people who are trained in the community and not everyone who seems to be in danger. This policy will be a great guide of protection to the citizens because only specific people will be known to own guns and only the ones trained and authorized by the government.
