Black religion in America
Black religion in America represents the protestant affiliates in the United States. In the past, the Black religion was fighting against social and political issues such as racism, poverty, health care reforms that incorporate blacks, gang violence, drug use, and prison ministries. With black leaders such as Martin Luther King, they manage to reform most of these social issues. Black religion also fought and advocated for the development of schools, hospitals, and churches where Blacks would have better treatment. Today’s Black religion’s main concern is that most African Americans are looking for theological answers. To achieve the goal of finding the religious question, the current Black church will need to incorporate a new model. The model should appreciate the old traditions but also have a deep theological understanding that addresses the cognitive, biblical, and African American cultural concerns.
Natives Americans are religious people. Native American’s religion is animistic, where they believe in spirits, Wakan Takan. They thought to acquire blessing from their spirits; they have to appease them. Therefore, they satisfied the spirits through when a young man came of age; he would take part in a ceremony that involved him fasting and self-harm. Also, they conduct a sundance ceremony where there is a central pole signifying the sun. Young men will then hung themselves by their nipples. Native Americans believe that’s spirits punish them through illness and harsh weather of the Plains. Besides, Natives Americans love nature, where the belief that human beings should live in a way that fit life. They love the land and refer to it as a mother. Native Americans believe in spirits, nature, and appeasing their spirits through various ceremonies to obtain blessings.
Historical development has shaped the American religious experience. The middle-age shaped the American religious experience since, during this era, there is the development of writing. Prayers and divine rules governing religion were written down, helping people to memorize prayers and rules. Also, in the axial age, the spiritual and religious foundation on humanity is brought up independently and simultaneously. The foundation of humanity in the axial age is the basis of many philosophical acts in the 21st century. In the modern period, that is between the 15th to 19th centuries. There is the invention of the printing press, which enhances the printing of the bible in different languages. Also, the invention of the printing press increased the rapid spread of protestant reformation in various states under Martin Luther king.
American Religious Landscape is experiencing a dramatic change.White Christians who were dominant in the dominant religious account for a few than half of the public. White Evalangical protestants were the largest traditional religion. But for now, it makes up less than 20% of the American population. Also, the number of African Americans who identify themselves as unreligious that is atheist had grown from 12% in 2009 to 18% in 2014. The increase in the atheist population show in the future, there will be an unreligious population. The non-Christian group that is the Buddhist, Muslims, and Hindus constitute less than one in ten Americans as of 2016.
