South Jamaica, located in the New York Metropolitan Area, is a fast-developing urban region. The demographic report betokens that the part has approximately 230,527 people where 67, 17, and 11 percent are Blacks, Hispanic, and Asians, respectively (NYC health, 2018). Notably, the median character age of the population is 25 years. The median household income is approximately 68413 dollars. In the recent past, a disturbing unhealthy report has been established majorly form the community at this locale. This problem emanates from frequently eating out specifically junk foods causing health disparities. According to the New York Health (2018), around 46 percent of what and individual consumes is healthy while 28 percent is not including sugary drinks et al. The physical inactivity is less than 21 percent resulting to obesity cases to increase to approximately 27 percent (NYC health, 2018). Obesity cases call for a multidiscipline approach that includes incorporating all the relevant stakeholders to help solve the issues at hand.
Additionally, a lot of efforts are being launched to help address the issue, including policy enhancement. Intervention programs with the relevant stakeholders will help come up with the best approach that will solve the problem at the grassroots level. The main objective put into place is reducing obesity cases to approximately 20 percent in one year, where the policy is to be implemented in March 2020 (And & Hollis, n.d.). However, the National Strategic and Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases in Jamaica are setting up a partnership with the ministry in coming up with the innovative measures that will address the problem (Astrup, & Bügel, 2019). The department is promoting exercise and proper dietary choices that will help beat the epidemic. Regular exercise for a minimum of five days per week will improve the well-being of the people. The policy from a nursing perspective will help solve the present pandemic facing the Jamaicans. The plan has been passed to be effective, incorporating another factor, including the environmental bit. The policies have created a need for increasing the space for recreational services and food labeling. The system has influenced the food environment that discourages the supply of unhealthy foods.
The approach policy requires input from several stakeholders, including the government, health board, food processing companies, and the consumer. The health board is the main stakeholder reason being they are responsible for monitoring the quality of food being produced and the full effect on the consumer (Brand et al. 2014). Additionally, the consumer is of equal importance in the implementation process reason being they have firsthand experience with the obesity issue. Therefore, they are responsible for what they consume and other health practices.
Rules and policies guide how a specific activity will be carried out to obtain a particular outcome. In this context, if the plan has not yet been put into place, it is wise to consider several stakeholders like the government, health practitioners, consumers, and the food processing companies. Notably, the critical stakeholder is the government, which is responsible for implementing most of the rules that will reach everyone. Creating health websites that allow public opinions through a feedback program will help identify what the government will put into place and also understanding how the issues affecting the people will be resolved.
To realize and obtain sustainable development, the people who are the main stakeholders need to feel the effect of the policies put into place. The outcome of the plan is measured, and available information is deduced, thus helping identify areas that the system has failed and areas of improvement. In this context, if the policy will not be in effect, more lives, primarily the middle-aged, will be ata risk of getting the health complication (Brand et al. 2014). Therefore, good policy needs to address the problem at hand and provide an ideal solution to it.
