SAPPHIC FRAGMENTS

The poem is about love, where Sappho is genuinely in love with a maiden. She misses the young Median very profoundly as she expresses her feelings and love for her. Sappho describes the features of the Median in a very emotional and erotic way when she says that ‘Beat your breasts, young maidens. And tear your garments in grief.” The poem also gives us the various fantasies people usually create when they are in love, for instance, Sappho claims that ‘As wind in the mountains assaults an oak, Love shook my breast.’

Love is a universal thing; everyone at one point in their lives falls in love not only with people alone but also an otherworldly thing. Sappho, under this poem, clearly shows the gayish character that is slowly taking over the world. She clearly expresses her love to another young woman and even suggesting that she would wish to marry her. Marry a younger woman. I don’t dare to live with a young man. The current society is slowly embracing the same-gender marriages and relationships, although some countries have not yet entirely accepted this idea.

Sappho also refers to the young maiden as a gold whom she compares to the Zeus. Zeus is the god of thunder who rule in the mountains according to the Greek culture and believes. This is a clear indication that the young maiden has fully taken control of o0f Sappho, and it’s like she is controlling her. ‘I don’t know what to do: I am of two minds. For gold is Zeus’ child.’’

The poem clearly shows that we can fall in love with whoever we want to, whether a man or woman. Sappho is genuinely in love with her fellow woman. The society should fully grant this freedom to anyone. People of the same sex should be allowed to marry one another as long as they are willing to.

THE MARRIAGE OF HEKTOR AND ANDROMACHE

The poems discuss the happiness that people usually have during marriage time. Like every other society, Sappho’s marriage ceremonies were associated with lots of love and celebrations. Several songs were sung with lots of ululations from the women. It clearly shows how marriage ceremonies are usually colorful and very exciting ‘and with her many golden bracelets and scented purple robes and intricate adornments, silver goblets past numbering and ivory.’

Every society in the world embraces marriage ceremonies. The diverse community has different ways of practicing marriages with different practices involved. The Sappho culture shows that males usually treat their female partners with lots of respect and admiration. For instance, under this poem, Sappho clearly states that ‘The sons of Ilus led out mules and harnessed them to fair wheeled carriages, and all the crowd of women and girls with slender ankles climbed on board and Priam’s daughters separately.’ It is a clear indication that marriage usually brings society together, making them happier hence increasing the bond among people.

Under the poem, Sappho mentions the word, Eros. Eros is directly related to the poem in the sense that it shows that people who are in love and willing to practice sex to bring children. The society always supports two people who have been legally married to share the marital bed and exercise all the conjugal rights to bring young individuals into the community. Eros is a Greek god of love and sex,

The poem clearly shows that marriage is a beautiful thing, and it brings happiness in society. During any marriage ceremony, people from different homesteads come together to celebrate the union of the other members of the community. ‘Everywhere through the streets [ wine bowls and cups [ and myrrh and cassia and frankincense were mingling.’

He’s equal with the Gods, that man.’

The poem is about two people, a man, and a woman together, just being happy. The man is responsible for the happiness of the lady due to the way he expresses himself and uses his word when talking to the lady. His facial expression entices the ladies; for instance, Sappho, in the poem, Sappho, claims that ‘And what excites my mind, Your laughter, glittering.’ the two seem to be in love.

The topic is universal in the sense that people usually find happiness when they are in the presence of other people. Such happened during ancient times, and it is still happening till now. In most cases, men usually know how to make any female close to them very happy and appreciated. The men have that power of making females feel weak and even powereless; for instance, the poem suggests that ‘Tremors over the skin, I turn the color of dead grass, And I’m an inch from dying.’

The poem mentions the word, Crete. Crete is Greece’s largest and most famous Greek island. It is the perfect place for the destination for any lovebirds. Sappho uses this term to elaborate on how the two people feel much closer together when they are alone. They feel like they are on vacation, just the two of them.

The poem means that happiness can from any external factor around an individual. For instance, the lady is so much enthusiastic in the presence of this man whom she describes tha he was from Crete. It also shows that males in society can make any lady feel more comfortable and relaxed around the.
