The use of communication and information technology devices among students in universities is a sort of addiction. Most students in universities always tend to be using their phones as lectures are going on in universities. The handling of technology devices in the university classroom has both positive and negative impacts.

Technology in university

Technology devices help solve tedious tasks. Technology devices help to solve tedious tasks very quickly. With reliable university Wi-Fi, it is easy to stream and get solutions to assignments from the internet. The only way a student can access the internet while in the classroom is by using his phone or laptop.  An added advantage of using technology is some of the updated information not found in the books is on the websites. (“8 High-Tech Gadgets That Are Making Classrooms Smarter,” n.d.)

Addiction of students relying on the internet to handle their assignments is not always the best idea. Some of the documents students use as a point of reference are blogs created by bloggers to have followers following their blog posts. The wrong blogs leave the student assignment filled with false answers. The result is the student ending up registering the wrong information in his mind.

Some of the materials sourced from the internet create ideas in a student’s mind, which leads to innovations. A student also may have an idea and has no knowledge of how to put it to practicability; through the use of technology devices, the student can google the process, and the student successfully continues with the launching of the idea to reality.

In contrast, a student may seek and retrieve information on the technology device, in the name of research only to impose negativity on the student. (Edge, n.d.)The internet has got all kinds of information a student wants to research. Some students take this opportunity to google unhelpful staff that result is destruction while the lecturer is teaching because they have been granted permission to conduct the research using their devices. The student’s mind cloggs with lousy influence. Which the student copies vices from the internet and tries to put them in reality.

Technology brings about a classroom being lively because there is a student lecture engagement. Students always love the use of technology devices like phones, tablets — computers in the classrooms. The use of technology devices attracts more attention because of student lecturer engagement. It is where the lecturer explains a concept, and the illustrations are from the internet. It enhances the smooth understandability of topics taught in that manner as the addiction of technology devices amongst students leads to a high concentration rate when the lecturer illustrates using the tools. A student tends never to forget an illustration drawn from the internet.

The excitement that comes along when the students are asked to log on the internet using their devices, the lecturer does not have enough time to utilize technology to the fullest. To reduce the addiction of the internet, a lecturer has to spend some agreed number of hours upon which technology causes some addiction to the student, which results affect the student’s brain. The excitement of the student slows down the speed of explanation of the lecturer. The result is the students end up not covering all that was to be in that lesson. Some students will pretend not to understand what the lecturer is explaining so that they may extend using their devices, which at times leads to a lot of destruction to both the student and the lecture.

Technology has advanced to universities where you find technology devices in lecture rooms in almost all learning institutions. As technology is advancing, so is education advancing. Some of the reading materials are from the internet through the use of technology devices. In universities, not all technology devices are useful. (“Types Of Classroom Technologies,” 2017) Some tools only result in destructing the student’s attention when learning is taking place.

A projector is a device that is needed by learners in an institution. A projector plays a significant role in the lecture rooms. It assists in zooming the lecturer notes on the whiteboards. Some institutions have a lot of students, which leads to the institution having big classes. The use of a marker on the whiteboard only assists the students seated at the front. All students cannot fit the front space, with the assistance of the projector learning is well understood even by students at the back, because the machine has zooming power.

Use of microphones in the lecture rooms. Some institutions have huge lecture halls to accommodate the high number of students. The use of loudspeakers in class helps the lecturer pass his voice to everyone in the lecture hall. Evolving of this technology dramatically assists as it helps lecturers avoid raising their voices when teaching.

Flipped learning is part of technology advancement in the institution classes.it is a type of education where a learner can watch his classes online as they are on progress. Most students enroll in the institutions but choose the far distance learning program. The far distance learning program is a type of education system in institutions of higher learning where a student is not physically present in class. The use of flipped learning technology ensures a student is up to date on all his lecture lessons, and the only difference with other fellow students is only his class absentia. Still, knowledge-wise, they receive the same content.

The use of phones in classes is very destructive. For one to research while using the phone, one has to switch on data. When the data of a phone is on, it gives room for notifications to pop up. The pop of notifications causes a lot of destruction to a student. In the process of elimination, a student forgets that he is in class and immediately starts responding to the warnings. it leads to mind destruction of most students

The use of personal laptops in class is also another technology device that obstructs a student. Most students carry their laptops with them to the classroom because of the availability of free WIFI. when a student gets to class and connects the machine to the Wi-Fi, the student tends to surf, downloading and live streaming events that are not in correspondence with

The lecture. The result is the student leaves the class without knowledge of what the lecturer taught.

It is observable that technology has both positive and negative impacts when applied in learning institutions. The emergence of technology in the learning institutions have mentored students, and most of them have their dreams brought to reality through the help of the technology devices in institutions

In conclusion, technology is essential in the institution’s classrooms. Technology brings improvement in learning institutions day after day. Embracing technology in institutions not only builds the institution brands name but it also equips students with skills that could have lacked if the use of technology was not available

Some of the recommendations that are applied to minimize the cons of technology in classrooms include the following:

  • Institutions are having their own learning devices present in the school. The mechanisms to have a program in a way that they only conduct research based on academics.(Read “Toward Excellence in K-8 Mathematics” at NAP.edu, n.d.)
  • Regulation of internet services in the classrooms. The institution ensures that the Wi-Fi is regulated to only academic learning sites when a student is in the school.
  • The institution regulating students from entering the classes with their technology gadgets, like all technology devices they need are available in the institution.
