ALL ABOUT PRESCHOOL STEM
The objective of this workshop is imparting skills to preschool educators. The knowledge acquired from this workshop would be used to create a good ground for science, technology, engineering, and math education in early childhood. The educators will get an opportunity to practice the skill they already know about teaching STEM to preschoolers.
Explanation
The projected workshop is meant for imparting knowledge to teachers who are charged with the responsibility of educating preschool children. The reason for the workshop is to inform the educators that the grounding of science, technology, engineering, and math education starts in the early stages of child development. Early childhood educators have the responsibility of shaping the background knowledge on STEM to these young learners. The workshop is stipulated to take at least six hours of interaction with the target audience.
Objective/Purpose
The fact that science, technology, engineering, and math education should be grounded in early school life creates the basis for this workshop. The work is designed to facilitate the teaching of STEM to preschool children. The targeted audience, who facilitates learning of preschool children, are set to display their ability to enhance the teaching of STEM to preschool children. The workshop is targeted to set a ground for the teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to children in their early school life.
Target Audience
Early childhood educators are fundamental to the learning process of preschool children. They lay the primary foundation for the future school life of the children. This workshop is helpful to educators as it gives them a guideline on teaching STEM to preschoolers.
Theory
This study is based on the theory of sociocultural, which leads to the constructivist theory. Constructivist theory is a learning approach associated with the works of Vygotsky (1978). The sociocultural theory highlights the importance of student’s interaction with others and their environment for learning realization. On the other hand, the constructivist approach emphasizes the importance of exposing the learners to the environment for them to relate real-world problems ad situations to tasks at hand ( Wilson, 1978). These learning theories are reflected in the workshop as the teachers model lessons for the teaching of STEM.
Previous research conducted on teachers has shown that focusing the professional development of teachers on particular teaching practice, increases the chances of employing those learned practices in the classroom. The character of preschool teachers after getting professional development, show an increment in their natures, self-efficacy, and high rate of implementing the STEM lessons in the learner’s environment.
