Importance of negotiations i life
Negotiations are an essential part of life, and human beings cannot live without them. People negotiate in their personal and professional lives to obtain information or something of value from another party. There exist several strategies that one can use to become an effective negotiator and get a deal without delays. Negotiation is a crucial skill that all people should possess and apply it in their daily lives. There are several setbacks when it comes to negations that can fail a deal. The most significant setback is stalling, where one party delay the other one by postpone to take action or to give a reply to allow themselves more time for decision making. Stalled negotiations can result in job actions like strikes. The essay discusses the job action that can result from the stalled negotiation of a police union and whether police officers should be allowed to strike.
A job action that could result from stalled negotiation for police unions is to be patient and to try many times to present the grievances. The career of police officers depends on the government to decide when to and when not to after their grievances have been presented by the union (Ashford University, 2017). Since they are not allowed to strike, the union leaders can only try again and again to get their grievances to be heard.
Police officers should not be allowed to strike. They are the ones entrusted with law enforcement and providing security to citizens, and their strike could result in insecurity. A strike of police officers is likely to disrupt many state operations like the protection of the citizens (Dessler, 2016). It would also give room for criminal acts like robbery, burglary, and murder, which would bring negative impacts on society. Also, a strike by police officers is a negative image to the society as they are seen as role models and representation of the government. It could indicate government failure.
