American Government
The USA has the most expensive health care system compared to its European counterparts. Hence, there is a debate in the country as to whether health care should be accessed through private insurers or a hybrid public/private system or a public system. In my opinion, I believe the private system is the best way forward for Americans, given it offers more choices than the others.
Private health coverage is offered by private entities such as the employer and other companies affiliated to the policyholder. These plans are very flexible, giving the policyholders more options as to which medical facility or doctor to choose. Furthermore, private providers are many in the markets; thus, and policyholders can choose the provider that is most appropriate for them. Efficiencies generated by private plans fund extra benefits like dental care, prescription drug coverage, and have lower out of pockets costs. Therefore, individuals enrolled in private plans have reduced mortality compared to those with equivalent medical risks enrolled in hybrid and public administered coverage.
The hybrid system integrates private and public care expenses into a universal compulsory health insurance scheme. Here, consumers choose between a government-run and a private health insurer. Under this system, eligible citizens are mandated to purchase health coverage or risk a tax penalty. With such, individuals who do not qualify for a tax subsidy and lack employer-sponsored coverage are left facing enormous health coverage costs.
The government offers public health care plans to the elderly, specific people eligible special subsidies, and low-income families. Public health insurance has less flexible given policyholders in these plans are provided with limited changes for selecting medical services as well as facilities. The reason is that most medical establishments don’t accept government-sponsored plans and that if a therapy is deemed necessary, the public health insurance does not reimburse it.
