Annotated Bibliography on Using Shakespeare to teach English in the digital age

This article discussed the opportunity that teachers have to use Shakespeare’s life and work to teach the English language. It provides that teachers can employ techniques presented by Shakespeare to impart English knowledge in learners. Seargeant and Chapman also talk about the challenges that come with teaching English using Shakespeare’s materials. The two authors further examine and reflect on the use of Shakespeare in a diverse world with learners from different backgrounds. The duo provides the review on design, production and use of Shakespeare teaching materials. The article also contains a comprehensive analysis of traditional teaching methods and current techniques. As it focuses on the modern way of teaching English, this paper addresses explicitly integration of digital technologies and Shakespeare’s literature works. It also examines how digital communication can develop broad and interactive experience during English language learning activities. I will use the material because it examines how points of language connect to the historical culture and the modern language. The authors argue that Shakespeare’s life and works can be used as tools for student learning. I will compile my final essay using this source because it is credible. It is also objective and was written with a purpose worth examining while writing an essay about English learning. Lastly, the source is currently published in 2018, containing recent information about teaching the English language.
