Professional guidance and counseling in school system
Professional guidance and counseling is an essential part of any school system. The role of a school counselor is to come up with an efficient counseling program that can guide all the students in realizing their academic goals and potentials (Erford, 2007). The counseling program can be rolled out through a grouping of students based on their educational possibilities, how they make their decisions and future career considerations. These guidelines will help in the identification of capabilities and weaknesses more efficiently and effectively of guiding the students.
Based on the American School Counselor Association, School counseling programs should come up with combined efforts helpful to learners, parents, tutors, administrators, and the entire school fraternity (Bowers, 2005). The model comes up with criteria that school counselors and the counseling team will use in designing, coordinating, control, and evaluate student’s success. A student-centered approach is more efficient compared to a service-centered approach in this model. The procedure will help asses critically how students will acquire different results from the laid out program
A counselor will emphasize on essential components of relaying the counseling program in school (Erford, 2007). These components include; equal learning opportunities to all learners. Finding out knowledge and skills that all learners will gain as an outcome from the intensive school counseling program, rolling out the program in an orderly way, and effective decision making. Reach out to all students will be a critical way of enrolling this program. Cooperation between the counselor, the parents, and other school stakeholders to create an environment that enables learner’s achievements.
Ensuring personal learner development will be an effective way of exploiting the school guidance program. The school counselor will examine the application of learner’s achievement, response, and behavior (ASCA, 2003). Further evaluation will, therefore, guide future actions I addition to the betterment of future outcomes for all learners.
