Skills for Managers
Nevogt (2019) states that managers have a lot to deal with in their day to day lives. They not only have to support, guide and nurture their employees, but they also have to do it with authority and strength. If managers can do their job correctly, then the employees or team members that they work with and the organizations they work for will grow. There are many tips that managers could use to do their jobs effectively. These tips include using communication methods strategically, strengthening internal bonds, being transparent, setting clear goals for team members, managing stress in the workplace and motivating team members, tracking progress, and being transparent (Nevogt, 2019). Considering the engaging nature of managerial positions, managers are encouraged to master these skills for them to be able to lead their teams and organizations to success.
How I will Adjust My Behaviors
After reading Nevogt’s article, I find that there is still a lot that I have to do to be an effective manager. I will work on strengthening bonds in the workplace because at the moment, I have not created any time for my team members to engage in group activities that are not related to work such as playing a game of sport or watching a movie. I will also try to involve my team members more in decision making because I am now convinced that it makes them more involved and feel valued. I always believed that involving too many people in the decision-making process slows down things because of divergent opinions. But after reading the article, I realize that more creating solutions to a problem can be achieved when more people are involved. I will also improve on team motivation. I have never really paid attention to the fact that my team members could also be having personal goals, and I always assumed that all that matters is work. team motivation is, therefore, another area that I will work on.
