Defining Success

People tend to have different success stories in their life. This makes it hard to have a general definition of success. Success has different meanings to various people. What an individual could deem or consider being success could mean a different thing to a different person. Notably, the definition of success is based on an individual’s life goals, values, and dreams. Success is confined to an individual and entails what the person wants to be or wants to achieve in life. Therefore, success could be perceived as the fulfillment of an individual’s desires or dreams that make him feel having an accomplished life.

Financial success is a significant form of success for various people. In the modern world, people dream of making large amounts of money as they can. They dream of having enough wealth and financial freedom in a way that they will manage to cater for their living expenses and other luxurious things they find interesting or worth to their life. Therefore, they tend to work hard, invest, and save as much as they can to attain their objective. Once an individual reaches the amount of wealth that makes him or her feel that he has accomplished the dream or goal, they can be regarded or described as a success. This is because they managed to attain a certain financial level that they had set in their lives.

Apart from that, other people consider living a healthy life as a success. Illustratively, an individual may be diagnosed with a certain health issue in his or her young age. However, they could set a goal that they will seek medical aid to eradicate the problem. Once the problem is no longer a threat to the individual, they will consider this a success. From another perspective, some people may look forward to living a long life without any health issues. Such people tend to feed well, work out, and avoid habits that degrade their health. In case such an individual lives to old age without any health issues, he or she will consider his life to be a success since he lives a healthy life. Additionally, a patient who has an accident and has to undergo physical therapy will be considered to have attained success if he or she manages to accomplish his physical fitness back and execute daily chore irrespective of the injuries he or she had after an accident.

Another common form of success is career success. Most Americans and youths across the world tend to study hard with the objective of being an engineer manager or land a great profession. Career success is mostly based on career titles. Most people want to be company directors, managers, or firm owners. At the place of work, most young people tend to work hard to attain the position they always wish for in their lives. Once an individual manages to reach a career position, he or she aimed at achieving; he considers his career to be successful. Often people perceive their bosses and managers to be successful. However, career success requires determination and hard work until one reaches the position he or she wishes.

Another primary form of success in the modern world is an educational success. Illustratively, most of young people work hard to get good marks to ensure that they join a college or university. Other students aim at surpassing the university level to doctoral and master’s degree. Once such, a student acquires his or her doctoral or master’s certificate. He is considered to have educational success. Often success in education is symbolized by graduation ceremonies in which students are praised and awarded their certificates. Notably, educational success often aligns with career success since most of the people who best high goals with respect to education also aim at getting better careers and employment positions in an organization.

Based on these examples, it is vivid that success is often based on what makes one happy or satisfied with their lives. Therefore, it is hard for people to consider that they are successful if they are satisfied or pleased with the level or quality of the life they are living. Notably, a student who has managed to attain a master’s degree in a particular field feels happy by what he has managed to achieve. An employee who manages to work his way up career positions also feels satisfaction and happiness after attaining their goals. Likewise, a person who wanted to be well up financially feels happy and satisfied once his financial worth reaches the billion or million mark. Therefore, it is vivid that success is based on an individual’s preference and goals in life. That is, one is considered to be successful if he or she attains what he desired most in life. Thus, it is undeniable success could be defined as the fulfillment that emanates from achieving life goals and values that a person has and pursue.
