  1. The education-related quote is based on Confucianism is “When you see a worthy person, endeavour to emulate him. When you see an unworthy person, then examine your inner self.” The quote emphasizes on one’s role in education through a cultivated self. A person is therefore required to learn by interacting with the environment by identifying his own good based on the well-being of the others.
  2. Personal Quote on Education

“The main goal of education is to improve life in the world and to ensure that you make a positive impact on the community” this personal quote, also mirrors my belief in education as the way of understanding the universe to better peoples’ lives. As such, through education, everyone should ensure that they establish ways of improving the community and the entire globe.

  1. My personal Codes of Ethics

I have always believed in making difficult ethical decisions to ensure justice. I always feel that people should do things by adhering to the rules and acting in an equitable manner to each other. My ethical beliefs also hold that decisions made should be meant to benefit the society, treat people fairly with respect and kindness and that every person should practice what they preach. My personal codes of ethics are drawn from these ethical believes and they include a commitment to the community as I always strive to make my community happy by taking actions to support them in any way possible.

I will also treat people based on the golden rule with kindness and in the manner that I would also wish to be treated.

I would make decisions that are beneficial to those that  I care about.

I will honour my promises and keep my commitments, especially to myself and to the people I interact with.

I will also attain my moral and functional obligation by practising accountability for all the oversight, shortcomings, and negligence that I may face while fulfilling my obligations.

I will also uphold the integrity and tell the truth for the good of every person I interact with.

  1. Visionary/ Norm for Early Childhood Education (ECE)

The ECE norms are majorly drawn from the NAEYC standards which promote values of equality of opportunities, honesty, justice, and freedom. They are based on the children’s ability to develop and learn and uphold the bond between the family and the children. As such, the norms are developed in the context of society, community, culture, and families. The norms include having positive relationships between the adults and the children to enhance a child’s ability as a responsible member of the community. ECE also promotes a collaborative relationship with the children’s family to promote the development of the children in all settings as a way of attaining their optimal learning capabilities.

Another ECE norm is also to ensure the health of the children by supporting healthy childhood development to enable them to learns and grow.

Assessment of the progress of the child continually is also an ECE norm as this assist in providing information regarding the development of the children. Assessment approaches that are adopted are made based on the cultural and family contexts of the child.

ECE also confirms competencies, support, and preparations of the staff to ensure that they are capable of promoting the learning and development of the children and even support the interests and needs of the different families they meet.

  1. Confucius View about Education

Confucius main aim of having an education was to create men who could work in decisive roles in the government. To him, education is meant to create a gentleman by the cultivation of character through study, observation and reflective thought. He considered learning as a process of observing subject matters which is personal and thus an individual activity. Confucius education model encourages lifelong learning that would enable the human beings to be practice and achieve their true nature which involves living happily in the land and with all that it has. His education philosophy regards human beings as the end and not the means.

  1. John Dewey’s view about education

John Dewey progressive education is pragmatic as he believes that the students must interact with their environment to be able to adapt and learn from it. His aims of education are focused on the rapid and economic changes in the globe. He believes in learning by doing and not by passively receiving since he believes that every child is inquisitive, active, and is ready to explore. To him, education should be imparted depending on the learner’s needs and its main purpose should be to establish a balanced interaction of the theoretical and practical attitudes.  He considers a school as a place where children are able to learn through personal experiences and therefore, a social institution that promotes the main aim of education, which is social efficiency.

  1. Differences in Confucius and Dewey view on education

Confucius and Dewey view on education are similar, especially with regard to moral education as they both agree that people are deeply involved with each other, and that is crucial in moral development. The two philosophers’ views are, however, different based on their discourses on education, such as the role of the teachers and learners and the purpose of education. Regarding the purpose of Education, Dewey holds that learning needs a reflective and critical understanding of an individual’s purpose, which is connected to how they diagnose the challenges they face. Confucius, on the other hand, do not believe on learning experience based on what one confronts but he believes that the ends are prescribed by the li and heaven-given xing and thus do not emerge temporarily during problem-solving. Confucius’s ultimate learning purpose is to hold the way.

The two philosophers also have different views on the roles of students and teachers. While Dewey regards teachers as the facilitators of learning whose main role is to discern and make adjustments based on the needs of the learner, Confucius considers a teacher as the ultimate role model for the learners and therefore they need reverence.

My view on education

I believe that education is a way of understanding how the world works and thus allows us to explore the different aspects of the globe. As such, I regard education as a constant means of growing and establishing a positive impact on the world.

  1. Program to better education

The program I would create to better education is community-building programs that would promote cross-age relationships which assist in teaching them important social skills. Just like NAEYC, the program will help in fostering the traditions, boosting responsibility and improving inclusiveness during the learning process, which can be beneficial to all the students. As such, they can make learning experience simpler, faster, and enjoyable.
