Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the University.
I have been preparing for my major my entire life, as I have been active in the dramatic arts since the age of 9 as a player for the musical theatre company SFArtsEd, which is when I fell in love with the performing arts. As an SFArtsED player, I performed in several musicals during my first four years. Eventually, I earned a lead role during my last year. Thankfully, my home district in San Francisco has one of California’s top-performing arts high school, Ruth Asawa School of The Arts, where I auditioned for Musical Theater. Fortunately, armed with a robust portfolio, I was accepted into Ruth Asawa School of The Arts, I was able to hone in my craft and learn from some of the finest artists in residence. I appeared in countless productions over my four years of musical theater performing as an ensemble. In my senior year, I eventually earned a role in the lead production on our staged production of Young Frankenstein, in which I played Frederick Frankenstein.
Meanwhile, I was simultaneously pursuing my career in film and television while attending college. I’m currently attending San Francisco State University, where I’m majoring in theater with a performance emphasis. Upon my arrival at San Francisco State University, I auditioned for a musical and had a performance assessment. After my evaluation, our theater professor allowed me to skip ahead in the course load to suit my skill level, allowing me to complete several of my upper-class prerequisites. Having previously attended a performing arts high school also attributed to their decision. Although I was able to participate in more challenging acting classes, unfortunately, I. still did not feel challenged. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
For this reason, my goal is to acquire
My general-education credits and transfer into a university where I could feel more challenged. My decision should not be understood as a lack of appreciation for my instructors. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at San Francisco State University. However, I don’t get the feel of the artistic community that I have been longing for.
Topic two:
Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome the educational barrier you have faced.
It has always been a dream of mine to travel the world; however, growing up in a single-parent household, we could not afford vacations. I reminded myself that when I become of age and can fund my expeditions, I would too on vacation. My dreams as a child of studying abroad were ignited when I discovered how affordable it would be through my current University. During my first year of college, I acquired as many credits as I possibly could. I pushed hard to earn A’s and B’s, in preparation for my second year so that I would be eligible for the Study Abroad Program. This was promising as after that; I could transfer into my first college choice, The University of California, Los Angeles.
Some of the iconic British characters that I have been obsessed with for the longest time include James Bond, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and Sherlock Holmes. For as long as I could remember, I would try to master my British accent as I watched Harry Potter on repeat. Not to mention, it’s the birthplace of William Shakespeare, of whom I have been studying throughout high school. I was eventually accepted into the Abroad program, where I am currently attending the University of Birmingham in the UK. I enrolled for as many acting classes as allowed, and I am now taking modules (courses) in Shakespeare, Athenian Drama, and Intensive Monologue. Taking these classes has been incredibly exciting and fulfilling because it seems that they have a very different teaching style in England than what is taught in America. I’ve taken this opportunity also to watch some plays and musicals. I watched a production of Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Globe Theater (William Shakespeare’s theater), Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theater, and I have tickets to see Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theater. I even took advantage of my opportunity to become an International Student Ambassador, where I represent my home university in England. I am also able to recruit other students to apply to study abroad at San Francisco State University and will continue during my Spring semester.
Topic Three:
Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem-solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.
As an actor, I often wonder how my acting is perceived from the viewpoint of the Cinematographer, the director, the audience, down to the screenwriter. It’s a lot to think about while trying to focus on my intense scene. I then decided to find out for myself, so I wrote a short documentary in a script format in the hope of one day, my script would be produced into a feature film. Also, being passionate about my veganism, I decided to collaborate with my two passions and write about veganism. My script is about why we choose to become vegans, titled, “Why we chose to become rabbits.” My short documentary is a narrative where the audience can relate to the character and feel committed to the mission. The screenplay takes place on a rural animal farm in Kentucky, where animal farming regulations rank the worst in the United States. Additionally, animal farming regulations are being ignored to meet demands. This sets a chain of events where not only are animal farming regulations being ignored, but animal protection laws are also being violated, which not only affects animal farming, but it also affects our domestic friends. Based on the premise of my story, I am sure you can imagine the outcome, which unfortunately leads to animal cruelty. My family and friends have read my script and made the life-changing decision also to become vegans, which encouraged me to not only pursue acting but to continue writing. I cannot wait for my artistic peers to potentially collaborate with me in bringing my stories onto the big screen one day. I, of course, would be the protagonist.
