My fascination with the human anatomy
My fascination with the human anatomy led me to a career in medicine as a physician assistant (PA). To me a PA is like a detective tasked with being vigilant all the time and collecting all necessary evidences and arriving at a rational diagnosis. While the doctors interact with other specialists and take notes, the PAs undertake a review of suturing lacerations or symptoms all while ensuring the patient is calm and informed to ameliorate stress levels. While undertaking this, integrity, critical thinking and high-quality patient care must be observed. The positive effect on the patient care experience is profound.
My short-term goals are to pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE)and be certified to practice. I also aspire to land a position in a busy health care facility and practice my classroom knowledge as I gain confidence and ability to treat and connect with patients. In the long term I seek to acquire enough skills and experience to be manager and mentor upcoming PAs.
I desire to become a PA to understand how to appropriately take care of patients and help in the recovery process. I have spent time shadowing PAs where I learned there is a harmonious collaboration between a PA and physician. It is not merely the PA helping the physician but a concerted effort towards a mutual goal of helping a patient. This responsibilities and environment excite me given I have a passion of working with patients regardless of their status, age, gender religious background, sexual orientation or beliefs.
