Summary of the Civil War
War is a conflict or armed fighting between two or more countries or groups of people within the same country.
Civil war is an armed conflict between the government and another group from just within the same country. It is a war of which the opposing groups of people coming from the same country fight each other so as to gain a political control, it only happens between citizens of the same country and the main reason for one of the groups is to take complete control of the country or a particular region or to change the government policies (Tekin).
The civil war in America started in the year (1861) after many years of unwelcoming tension between the northern and southern states over slavery, states’ rights expansion. In the year (1860) during the election of Abraham Lincoln, it caused the seven southern states to stop and form the Confederate States of America which led to four more states joining them. The War Between the States which was known as the civil war hence ended in the surrender of confederate in 1865. The battle was the most costly and deadly which was ever fought in American land with 620,000 out of the 2.4 million soldiers getting killed, several of the soldiers were injured and many of them from the southern part of the country left with many injuries. It was during the mid 19th century when the United States was experiencing a process of colorful growth. This was when fundamental economic differences occurred between the countries northern and the southern sides. Basing on the economic factors, agriculture was more so limited to the small scale farmers and the industries, and the manufacturing companies were very well established (Hammond). In the southern parts, their economy was majorly based on the large scale farming which relied on the labor of the black slavery to invest in some crops such as the tobacco, cotton.
The growing rejection sentiments in the year the 1830s of the northern people and its refusal to slave extension into the territories of the western part caused many southern settlers to be afraid that the existence of slavery in America was making their economy to be at the risk of failing. Since it was the war that was fought between the united states of America and the Confederate States of America, it was however, very significant because a collection of 11 southern states that left the union in the year of 1860 and 1861 went ahead and formed their own country because they wanted to protect and defend the home of slavery.
Adverse effects that led to civil war
The civil war in the United States has remained and known to be the most deadly conflict in the country which rose to the massive loss of people’s lives in the World War II, and many more lives were also lost in the 1st world war too (Smith). The civil war confrontation was happened to be the most bloodiest of all conflicts in the country.
During world wars, diseases, infections, and many injuries were the biggest killers because people had nowhere to seek for medical treatments and checkups which led to the deaths of a high number of them. Many of the soldiers who were severely wounded were therefore put in a room of overfilled treatment centers and hospital rooms that have horrible conditions. Mini ball riffle bullets which were commonly used during the civil war caused the worst injuries to the soldiers as many were hurt and died for taking too long to be attended to in the hospitals.
Conditions were bad especially for the prisoners of the union of a confederate who was just left with hunger; there was no food and water, they were neglected and hence died of starvation, the prisoners were even given some nicknames such as the “walking skeletons” due to lack of access to food and water.
Positive effects of civil war
The civil war in America created a way for them to be able to learn many things on how to deal with conflicts, it also taught the Americans at the same time to live a free life which seemed impossible earlier own during the struggle and war in a few years earlier on. With this open opportunity, the united states have since experienced tremendous economic growth and developments.
Many immigrants after the civil war began to see the nation as the quickest growing country of opportunities and a large number of people started to move in the American land. The southern lawmakers had blocked the passage of land grant legislation, but they were therefore never around during the secession, and therefore they passed many land grant measures which forever will always change the American’s physical landscape, political and the economic sides. It was also significant because there’s always a display of flags in memory of the fallen soldiers just as the summer goes underway and the use of flowers.
The beautifying of days and its decoration helped the separated nations to heal from their war wounds, the narration of historical stories and events were told and retold to give respect and honor to our fallen heroes and therefore helped to reconcile with the nations who were torn as a result of the civil war. Civil war encouraged the development of rapid-fire weapons that will, therefore, be helpful in defense and were therefore tested to detect any failure. This war was not merely dependent on the telegraph, but it eventually led to significant investments in new communication devices from the telephone right to the internet, the hierarchy was therefore invented not as a coincidence but for the military use. Communication devices have since helped and have prompted in the evolution of many languages that have enabled people to grow, share and interact globally.
Lessons learned from the American Civil War
However, we view the world in different words and opposite directions depending on which side of the country we live in or come from. Our constitution is written in a completely different ways and understanding it in our own ways that best fit to our needs. Nowadays we focus on each other’s misunderstandings rather than looking out for a way that seeks to reach out to a common ground and ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and a better solution is found or heard.
The Gatling guns and knives during the civil war period have therefore been put aside, but the direction of our country has since locked us in a bitter cold war which has never created a common solution that can be helpful but the lesson learned is that we cannot settle for a country that may not be able to bring the freedom of disagreements, however, this should be put into consideration because for many years, the price of democracy has always been war either in one way or another.
During the civil war, one side had to step aside before the American country could move forward and there was no room for the two parties to compromise because they had no common vision for the Americans, their interests were very different and their ideas of right and wrong were also opposing therefore for a country to have a complete stability at all times, they should be able to have a shared vision and mission with the same objectives that can always bring peace and harmony within the residents.
I would, therefore, argue that civil war itself teaches us nothing personal about ourselves that we already do not know. Some real lessons came out from our own political leaders such as the one from the President Lincoln when he moved very close to victory and therefore he did not talk about the winning or losing, he only spoke about the soldiers and the things and the common things which they had and their dedication of standing up for what they believed in.
In Conclusion
Having a government of people for the people and by the people, we should all be allowed to choose what we love and believe in, we should be allowed to have the freedom of speech and movement, and no one shall perish or die because of civil war, but we should now be experiencing natural deaths and typical ailments which are not caused by civil wars or conflicts. It serves to also remind all of us that a divided nation can destroy itself to an extension of hurting the economy at large.
