Union Carbide Corporation

Question one

There are various parties involved in the massive loss of human life in the union carbide corporation accident. The disgruntled workers in the  Union Carbide Corporation and its supervisors took part in the development of strategies to cover the accident situation. A decision made by the plant management seemed to be somewhat dangerous since it caused layers of events leading to the tragedy. The Indian government is responsible for the loss since it took part in pressuring the corporation to minimise their importation of the chemical products (Scheberle, 2018). By doing this, the government forced the firm to manufacture dangerous and toxic isocyanate, a methyl product. The company was supposed to import the product instead of producing it. The person responsible for the entire firm should also have located the firm far away from civilisation. It means that the firm should have been constructed in an industrial zone free from the members of the public. The decision of the company’s management in the storage of MIC products in large quantities instead of using small tanks in the room of the product led to the tragedy. The population of the townclose to the firm pointed to the disaster recipe whose chances could have been lower if the company was established in an industrial zone far away from the city (Eckerman & Børsen, 2018).

Question Two

Today, there is a need for corporeate, ethical and social responsibilities in the business boardrooms. The goal of every business organisation is to maximise profits, therefore, increasing the business return to the employees and its consumers. The business companies have developed strategies about giving back to the society by introducing various environmental initiatives. The union carbide business corporation and the government took part in overloading the health care services to the victims. They developed economic-ecological, occupational, health and habitat rehabilitation (Eckerman & Børsen, 2018). The relief for the victim affected entailed the partial injuries and claims for example death. The economic resources were used in treatment, housing, food and education. Due to the incident that led to the loss of almost half of the population in India, the government closed down various industries where only fifteen companies remained. The principles of social responsibilities and ethics helped in sustaining the corporation to the religious, social and moral obligations (Scheberle, 2018).

Question Three

The  Carbide Corporation and the government established laws on the types of the product the company produces its culture, and views in the chemical industries in India. The companies were now supposed to notify the members of the public on the company, or the industrial firm produces. The Bhopal tragedy led to the development of networks for the emergency departments. The council works together with the communities in dealing with the disasters in the human environment. The law on the establishment of chemical Associations led to establishment of CAER,  one of the response programs in preventing and minimising the emergencies caused by manufacturing industries (Eckerman & Børsen, 2018). The initiative establishes the primary standards for health and safety operations. I do agree with the strategies and the lawsuit applied by the Indian government. The use of precautionary and safety procedures could have avoided the Bhopal tragedy. The company offered economic resources to the affected, which helps them to recover the injuries. The company compensated the children and the families of the affected. The Carbide corporation was supposed to provide rehabilitation to the affected victims. The company was later closed in 1985 where the pipes, tanks and the drums were sold, and the area becomes the dumping ground for dangerous industrial chemicals (Scheberle, 2018).

Question four

The tragedy led to a massive loss of human life. Though the occurrence was preventable, the company management did not show any interest in minimising the situation. The appearance of accidents call for a response for the government and more so to the company that led to the tragedy. The first response goes to the people affected by the tragedy followed by the development of laws to minimise the occurrence of such a situation in future. The company took part in the provision of health, habitat, education rehabilitation of the affected victims. Their response was generally fair to the government and the general public. The CarbideCorporation dealt with the situation well even after the call for closure of the firm by the law (Eckerman & Børsen, 2018).

Question Five

The aims and the objectives of every business corporation are to carry their responsibilities after the occurrence of a strategy regarding the entire company. The company should encourage positive strategies in its environments, employees stakeholders and the general community (Eckerman & Børsen, 2018). The other members of the public across the globe belongs to stakeholders of the firm. The corporate firms highly contribute to a sustainable business environment. Dows business company have social legal and ethical responsibilities in resolving the environmental and health claims for the victims. The goal of the corporation was to protect the agricultural sector by supplying pesticides for the Indians. However, the used products must sustain the Indians agrarian growth. The income from the merchandise sold was used in the treatment of the victims. Therefore the company is legally and socially responsible in resolving its victims (Bisht, 2018).

Question Six

The leaking of the company’s gas led to massive loss of human life in India. The problem has led to the closure of various multinational corporations due to the use of old ways in the company’s operations. The use of outdated methods adopted by the producing firms has led to an increase in accidents in these industries (Eckerman & Børsen, 2018). There is a need for educating the public on toxic and hazardous chemical products. The government should regularly inspect industries and change laws that seem to cause accidental incidences to the public. The business firms should use the best techniques and consider the cultural and foreign differences in protecting their local industries and the general population. Business companies should oftenly involve themselves in corporate auditing particularly for the developed nations compared to other local companies (Bajpai & Singh, 2019).
