Impact of Presentations on My Media Literacy
Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, and evaluate media in a variety of forms. By understanding media literacy, we can appreciate the role that different kinds of media are impacting our society (Buckingham 22). The community cannot be complete without substantial information whose source is the media because it encompasses all practices that allow people to access, critically evaluate, and create media. The five presentations are all teaching us on the importance of media in informing and educating on both past, current, and future issues in society (Diergarten 35). By analyzing texts critically, we can understand the sophisticated messages that are passed to us by these different presentations.
One substantial idea that I have learned from the five presentations is how media shapes society and culture. From the presentations, we learn how the media has been at the forefront to inform people of what has been happening in the past days (Buckingham 22). My media literacy has improved after reading the presentations because I have developed my knowledge of how the media has an impact on the culture of people (Diergarten 34). Through media, we can learn how different people used to live as well as their relationship with one another.
From the presentations, I have learned that the media is the mirror of society. It does not only bridge the gap between people and the government but also provides valuable information about what is happening in other parts of the world (Buckingham 22). For example, in “The War of Words” presentation, I have learned the power of people in creating a state of imbalance especially when there is a disagreement between the people and the government (Diergarten 36). The war of words has offered me with an insight that the war of words creates the conflict of actions, and this may finally lead to warfare.
From the presentation on “Digital Nation,” I have learned how society has evolved over the years in terms of people’s ways of life. The presentation on “Brain Hacking” has also improved my media literacy because it teaches me how the media has shaped technology and how people are using technology to harm others (Buckingham 26). The society needs to be aware of the negative impacts of media in society. Media literacy entails learning both the positive and negative effects of different forms of media and how we can avoid the occurrence of such happenstances in society (Diergarten 36). Despite so many positive impacts of media in society, I have learned that media can affect me mentally, physically, and emotionally.
In conclusion, the element of society and culture is essential to both the media educated youths and adults. From the presentation on “THE RISE (AND FALL) OF HOLLYWOOD,” I have learned how different knowledge of essential aspects of the society is passed in the form of action. The media has played a very crucial role in advertising the Hollywood videos to ensure that the work of Hollywood reaches a large number of people. I have also learned that television and the internet have played a crucial role in this. The five media presentations have helped me improve my media literacy.
