The Invisible Sponsor Case Study

  1. The successful completion of a project ideally reflects the sponsors’ efforts. Project sponsors are responsible for the fate of projects. They are responsible for setting the objectives of the project as well as making all decisions that re pertinent to the project (Gemünden, 2014). In other words, the sponsor is responsible for the recruitment of personnel, setting rules, establishing contacts with the clients as well as monitoring the implementation process. In the case study, AI Zink was reluctant in taking up the responsibilities of a project sponsor since he was often reluctant in making decisions. More so, he was worried that the project’s failure could significantly affect his career.
  2. In some circumstances, executives are forced to act as the project sponsors. However, this depends on whether the executive wishes to be the sponsor of the project to the extent that they are willing to take the responsibilities of the sponsor (Kerzner, 2017). In essence, executives are usually given a choice to make independent decisions. In the scenario, the president of Moreland Company assigned AI Zink as a project sponsor to supervise the small-medium projects. Nevertheless, since AI Zink did not have the expertise and experience to assume the responsibility to manage the project. As a result, he tried to force the project manager-Fred to make the decisions concerning the project, thus delaying to complete the processes.
  3. The failure or the success of the project primarily depends on the availability of resources, the funding of the project as well as the efforts of the project team members. It is perceived that the successful completion of the project depends upon the involvement of efforts by the entire team whereby they work collaboratively to meet the scope of the project (Kerzner, 2017). As such, the success of a project entails a shared duty among the team members who comprise of the project manager, team leaders, members of the ream in addition to the project sponsor.
