Legalization of Gay Marriage in all the US States

Over the last decade, the issue regarding gay marriage contributed to the rise of vigorous debates across all the states in the US. Many of the religious leaders believed that allowing the marriage of same sex is morally erroneous and ought not to be signed into law. However, in June 2015, the Supreme Court lifted the prohibition on same-sex weddings paving the way for the gay couples to tie the knot, acquire marriage licenses and establish families despite the moral concern raised by some members of the society. The legalization of gay marriage across all the 50 states played an important role in ascertaining equal rights, reduction on the cases of teen suicide and divorce, ease the process of child adoption as well as foster societal acceptance. Consequently, the paper set to critically elucidate the substantial contribution of gay matrimonies legalization across all states in the US.

Since the change is inevitable, the legalization of gay marriage has contributed to the reduction on cases of divorce among couples. In the United States, most marriages eventually end with either divorce or demise of one partner. Various studies show that the relationship instability between couples of opposite sex is higher than that of same-sex with an annual divorce rate being 2% and 1.1% respectively. Besides, “same-sex divorce is happening at a lower rate than for opposite-sex couples” (Fottrell). In most cases, the divorce rate experienced among opposite-sex couples is attributed by the high level of incompatibility which mostly happens when couples get married due to unplanned pregnancy or barrenness which is unheard off in a gay marriage.

Similarly, the legalization of same-sex marriage has ascertained equality in the society. It is critical to note that every individual has equal rights and no one ought to be discriminated on the basis of sexual belief. The legalization of gay marriage in the United States forms one of the base pillar and a step headed to the realization of nation-wide justice and marriage equality where gay couples receive equal treatment as their peers. Despite the gay marriage criticism, the legalization “would grant same-sex couple’s legitimacy and access to the same legal and economic rights as heterosexual couples (especially so in the United States)” (Lyon, and Frohard-Dourlent 6). Nevertheless, the result of the legalization champions the increased recognition in the community while also raising the level of gay couple’s involvement in any of the community activities with no instance of discrimination.

Since the children are necessary, the legalization of gay marriage has ascertained the ease of adopting young ones among gay couples. Before the legalization, the adoption organizations disregarded the adoption request by gay couples while giving priority to marriages that have a male and a female with a notion that a child requires a mother and a father. However, the ratification forced the agencies to grant the gay couples the right to successfully adopt and raise children as their own with no limitations.  The government concern, however, is for the “gay parents and their children to live healthy, satisfying lives” (Patterson, Charlotte and Rachel 127). Also, the legalization certified one of the gay partner(s) to become a sperm donor on particular juncture if the couple wishes to adopt children to whom they are emotionally attached.

As a result of legalization, a gay couple is now accepted and recognized in the community. The extent of gay’s criticism has experienced a drastic reduction since the legalization of gay marriages in the year 2015. Members of the society regard the gays as they counterpart who only have a different conviction on sexuality. According to various studies conducted in the United States, almost 60% of the American citizens are at peace with the aspect of marriage equality while endorsing their brother and sons same-sex partners unlike in the last era where most of them openly opposed and criticized the facet of gay marriages (Witeck 19). Evident by the of the community participation in an occasion such as a gay wedding, the community is slowly changing, and with time, even the religious leaders will respect the fact that every individual has a right to marry whoever he wishes no matter the sex.

Also, the legalization has contributed to the reduction of the case of teen’s suicide. Recently, incidents of bullying in high schools and middle schools were rampant. Many of the students are bullied on the bases of their racial of sexual orientation which intern led to stress, depression and lowered self-esteem and thus instilling suicidal spirit. However, with the legalization of gay marriages, teens that are gays are accepted by both the society and their fellow student. Besides, with the realization and legalization of homosexuality, the teen will eradicate the belief on male relationship being a disability and hence they will have no reason to take away their lives.

In conclusion, the legalization of gay relationship has contributed in developing favorable community norms over that past few years. More people have embraced and are now accepting gays as a visitor to their home without looking down upon them on the bases of sexual orientation. After the legalization of gay marriages, cases of divorce and teen’s suicide have experienced a drastic reduction. The society has incorporated and accepted gay members in the community as well as the realization of equality for everyone. Ultimately, the state legalization on the gay relationship has granted gay couple the freedom to adopt and raise kids like any other family terming the move as turnaround tool on the way people discern and view various aspect of life.
