Food Article Summary

Poor nutrition has been cited as the leading cause of heart disease. People who do not observe the right dietary practices have themselves to blame, thanks to the research that was advanced by Dr. Keys. Despite his critics coming out to oppose Dr. keys results owing to the scientific approach, this did not stop Dr. keys hypothesis from becoming a global household name. His research was instrumental in shaping a shift from consuming large amounts of fat to utilizing vegetable oils. It is imperative to acknowledge the fact that, Dr. keys research pointed out the reasons why people had to stop eating foods such as red meat, butter, cheese among many any other fatty -rich foods. The fact that its research gained traction when heart disease was taking toll of the American population left American with no option but to obey the results of the research.

Moving away from fatty cooking oil meant a solution had to come in handy to replace the killer cooking oil. Vegetable oil came in to take place of fatty oils since they were cited to contain low levels of bad cholesterol which causes a heart attack. The same had to be accompanied by a stop on the uptake of foods which Dr. Keys highlighted as harmful to the body and use those which contained low-fat levels. It was necessary to use more of plant foods and avoid animal-oriented foods. However, high intake of carbohydrates led to a reduction of insulin levels causing diabetes. High glucose levels would lead to tasking liver to convert it to cholesterol.

The use of vegetable oil posed another challenge as too much intake of the same led to low levels of cholesterol which led to imbalances in the bloodstream. The ultimate effect was psychological problems due to change in mental reactions (Nina, 2014).  Further, vegetable oils are said to come with their shortcomings in the sense that, when overheated for a long time they undergo oxidation which in turn causes heart diseases and Alzheimer disease.

The question that abides is how efficient health players in is giving the right information to protect the population from health issues emanating from the foods they take. The responses to health issues leave more questions than answers since every turn of events towards finding a solution to a single health problem seems to lead to another issue. There are not fats that can 100 percent prevent the build-up to bad cholesterol, and as such, it is of paramount importance to ensure people take healthy diet and accompany the same with exercise. The aspect of exercise facilitates break down of fats to energy and in the event reduces cases of LDL build up in the blood arteries. The approach is crucial to ensuring no fat takes advantage of thickening arteries which may lead to heart attacks

In conclusion, people should reduce the intake of foods and fatty oils which increase plaque buildup in arteries. They should concentrate on foods that are rich in fiber such as vegetables and avoid animal rich diets. Fruits and vegetables will reduce cases of fatty traces in the blood and so is the cooking oils from such sources. Animal foods and oils from such sources increase the risk of HDL in the blood. Over and above such, people should engage in exercise to avoid accumulation of LDL in the arteries.
