DIFFERENT WAYS MANAGERS USE COMMUNICATION TO GUIDE THEIR ORGANIZATIONS

                                            INTRODUCTION

Communication is the act and process in which people pass intended meanings from a particular entity to the other, through words, sounds, signs and many others. In each organization, communication is essential in the realization of the organization’s goals and visions. Most importantly it enhances a clear understanding between the team’s management and all the employees. Managers and leader typically operate the teams. Managers are the highly positioned professionals in the organizations who deals with particular challenges and changes due to the current situations. Leaders in any organizations are the people who concentrate mostly on the overall view of the organization and try to expand the standards of work by motivating, mentoring, and building relationships with employees for the realization of the long-term goals. There are various useful forms of vertical and horizontal communications that managers use in organizations.

Verizon Wireless, a leading mobile operating network in the United States of America, uses various ways of communication to pass the crucial information to their employees. The CEO, Lowell C. McAdam, has employed these methods for the understanding majorly by their customers of how the organization operates. Lowell largely uses recorded videos to pass the information especially in the case of a new product to be offered that needs some demonstrations to the customers who form the largest stakeholders in the organization (Curtiss et al., Pp.53). This way has been more efficient to the customers as the videos provide a clear visual understanding of how the new product works.

He used this way of communication notably when the organization introduced the money transfer services to their customers to enable money transfer between the Verizon users. This demonstration helped clients understand how the application works.

The face-to-face way of communication is also mainly used especially at the end of every year when the CEO calls for the meeting of all the representatives of the stakeholders to explain the annual profits realized by the company in the concluded period. The CEO also uses this platform to address the investors, general public directly and most importantly the employees on their achievements and also present to them the goals of the organization for the next financial period. This form of communication has been more productive to the CEO and the organization at large as it has always provided a chance to the employees and all the stakeholders to ask for clarifications from the top management of the organization on the issues they don’t understand (Moran et al., Pp110). This platform also provides a potential immediate feedback from the audience and hence making it most useful to pass the information.

The managers of the organization use text messages and online memos to address any technical failures of the team. These text messages from the managers have been instrumental in helping the customers understand as they fix the problem of the time. The leadership of the organization has also been using published journals for their clients mainly annually. These magazines, as opposed to the managers’ memos, are meant to give the regular updates to your customers and the investors on the progress of the organization towards the realization of their long term goals( Moran et al., Pp.148). This communication is not the type of the information that managers would send as they are more focused on solving the current issues affecting the organization and not actively involved in the organization’s change of policies and long-term achievements of the goals. As much as there are some differences in the styles of communication between the managers and leaders, they all tend to strike an equal balance as they must all address the current situation of the organization.

CONCLUSION

Communication is a critical process in any organization for its realization of the long-term goals and visions. Managers’ ways of communication are very effective in helping all the employees, investors and the government in place to understand the current challenges facing the organization. Leaders’ styles of communication enable the organization to lay down to the stakeholders all the changes in the policies and the general progress of the team towards the realization of goals. Managers are frequently involved in organizing as leaders help to inspire and motivate.
