American invasion on Iraq

The American invasion led in 2003 has done less than increase war conflicts in Iraq. The state of war has damaged security system and caused deterioration in human rights especially women. Iraq women who once enjoyed high levels of rights and protection and were able to socially participate in their country activities now suffer a sad fate in the hands of the same protection. The priority that was given in protecting women and girls has been blown away by the war incidents that only increased after the US invasion.

Militias promoted ideologies that led to women being targeted for assassinations and intimidations that has forced them to stay out of public life. Victimization of women and girls has increased even in their own homes. Women are now being killed by their own fathers, husbands and brothers for a various acts that are said to bring shame to the family and to the tribe. And seeking for official protection from the violence only gets them a larger risk of public harassment and abuse from all- male Iraq’s police and security forces in charge. Iraq law after the war now values honor more than convicting crimes. This has led to ‘honor killings’ increasing the society.

Abduction of women as well increased. Women and girls are being trafficked in and out of the country for sexual exploitation. This kind of trade is said to provide money that finances criminal crews and dealings. Surprisingly, there has been no conviction of this reported women trafficking. And this shows how the war consequences has changed has replaced the priority to protect women with placing suffering on them.

The war has caused women who happen to have fled sectarian or escaped other violence, the ones who have been widowed or the ones who chose to be heads of families with no reason and are dependent on government aid to be vulnerable to abuse. This is because religious and government organizations started to participate in exploiting them in exchange for them to get benefits or charity. Widows are being forced to engage marriages for pleasure. A traditional practice that before the war could have been said to be unspeakable abomination.

The Americans agenda of destroying Iraq has led to many civilian casualties. The death rate in Iraq has raised sharply. There is stepped up coalition bombing and ground attacks which has caused people to leave their homes and the ones that are left behind are at a greater risk. UNHCR has reported that 1.9 million people displaced people in their own country and about 2 million people has escaped and became refugees in the neighboring countries. Generally, the Iraq’s order has been destroyed and even basic needs like food, electricity, water, and sanitation are not well met.

According to the 2008 Red Cross findings, the America invasion on Iraq has caused a huge humanitarian crisis. The article shows that there has been 1.2 million deaths which 2000 of the killings are doctors and this has created in a raise to 4.7 refugees. The situation has worsen and there has been several assassinations and imprisonment of about 5500 intellectuals. The invasion is said to cause a 5 million orphan cases as well. And the worst part is that Europeans are sending Iraq’s refugees back to their country despite there being a widespread kidnapping, violence and daily killings.

Since the invasion, the women role in the society has changed gradually. Women are not given the chance to be effective in the in the political arena anymore. They are excluded from the decision making processes that involve the government. Their cabinet posts number has reduced from 6 to 1 and they can’t be entrusted with much more responsibility than putting rubber stamps on the men party leaders.

The growing religious conservation in the Iraq society is threatening women who were once said to be liberal and secularist. Non-Muslim women are being threaten has well is more of religion based and can give freedom to Christian women to carry on activities as their religion states. Women through this conservative religious rules are being forced to wear head scarfs and this oppression has reaped them their freedom. They can no longer do as they please in their own societies.
