Publication on Leadership and management

Leadership and management are vital in ensuring the delivery of good health services. In certain respects, both are similar but involve different skills and behaviours. “Good managers should strive to be good leaders, and good leaders need management skills to be effective”. Leaders focus on motivating, empowering and inspiring their members as well as spearheading transformation. A leader in a health care organization should have good interpersonal skills as well as communication skills. A leader has responsibility in ensuring the strategies and plans laid by the management have successfully been executed (Jabbar & Ali, 2017). They should inspire the members and engage them in making the vision a reality.

On the other hand, the managers have a responsibility to make the decisions on what process and system should be followed to achieve the set plans. The leaders in the planning process, concentrate on building a good relationship with the staff members to influence them in establishing their capabilities in to realize the set vision. However, the managers focus on the sufficiency of the resources required for the success of the plan. The cooperation of these two departments would result in achieving growth and improving healthcare services.

Leaders also think beyond what an individual can do and they work to increase their capabilities. They inspire their followers and engage them in making that vision a reality. The managers, on the other hand, they decide on what process and system should be followed to achieve the patient’s safety and achievement of a higher quality of healthcare. This departmental coordination would result in the growth of healthcare and improvement of patients safety and healthcare services.

Leaders enhance and build a good relationship with the staff members within the healthcare while managers develop processes and systems. The focus of leaders is always on individuals on how to influence them and realize the set vision. Leaders build trust and loyalty by delivering their promises to the stakeholders of providing better healthcare services and ensuring patients safety better healthcare services. Managers have all their attention on the structures necessary to set goals and processes required to achieve them. They focus on the analysis and ensure the systems are in place to achieve the desired results.

Leaders view their people as optimistic and competent about their potential. Leaders, in most cases, do not tell people what and how to do a given task. Managers always assign and guide on how a given job should be done. Leaders, on the other hand, make their followers raving fans and help them building on their capabilities and achieving their goals as individuals. Their followers assist them to increase their credibility and visibility; thus, the managers can improve their experience and lead people in the best way. Managers, however, have staff that follow the given directions on how to approach a given task. Therefore, the team can achieve goals set as they follow every instruction given. Such processes would help in improving the safety of the patients and improving healthcare services.

Leadership and management in healthcare play an essential role concerning reforms, quality of services provided and the use of resources. These two aspects help healthcare to improve its healthcare services and to deliver them in the best way possible (Understanding HealthCare Management, 2015).

The differences between leadership and management help fasten the planning process and the achieving period is reduced. As the managers plan on the systems and procedures to approach the plan, the leaders ensure that there is an improvement in the plan set; thus, it creates room for other members to improve.           Mostly the leaders have the responsibility of ensuring that plans set by management are successfully met. Therefore, they are required to be a source of motivation to the staff members, whose participation makes all the difference an organization.

Leaders have a vision of what the organization can achieve and communicate and give strategies on how the idea can be realized. They are a source of motivation to other workers, and they can equally distribute the resources and offer additional support for the realization of goals set. Managers ensure that the resources available are enough and organized to give the expected outcome.

Strategic planning in a health organization is based on the culture of the organization, patients feedback, goals and objectives of the given company.

Poor leadership in a health care organization could increase the cost and lower the profit realized. The organization suffers cost associated with replacing the leader, ensuring good interviewers to employ a skilled person, the cost of speeding to get a person to fill the gap thus reducing the revenue for the organization (Training, 2017). That pulls back the performance of a given healthcare organization.

Higher employee turnover could result in an organization due to poor leadership. Workers who have low motivation and are tired of the poor culture in healthcare begin looking for other jobs. Such organizations strain after losing the top and experienced workers and have to bear the cost of looking for other employees.  This drags the company behind.

Failure to meet the set goals is another impact of poor leadership. One sign of a weak leader is the failure to inspire and motivate workers for them to work at their best potential to achieve the best outcomes. At any given level, employees need to be committed to the attainment of goals of the organization. Without a supportive and encouraging leader, the goals set are not likely to be achieved

Low patient satisfaction is an indicator that there is poor leadership in the given institution. Research conducted by Maryam Ghiasipour in 2017 showed that leadership participate in 3-4% improvement in customer satisfaction. Poor leadership, however, impacts customer satisfaction negatively as well as the revenue (Ghiasipour & Mosadeghrad, 2017).

Poor leadership causes dissatisfaction among the staff. It impacts employee satisfaction negatively, which in turn affects the total worker productivity (Hopkin, 2018). Under such conditions, you may find that the employees are not psyched up for their work, and they may recklessly attend to their patient affecting the performance of the organization. In conclusion, poor leadership affects the performance of an organization, and in rare cases, may fail.
