preventing the employees’ turnover in the hospitality industry
When the hospitality industry increases the minimum wages, there is a high chance that competition will arise among the employees in the neighboring states. Take a case for a state like Lowa that maintains a minimum wage that is around $7.25 per hour may encounter some challenges in drawing the workers. However, many of the employees think that a minimum wage of $15 is so low than what they expect to be paid. Therefore, people should not take the minimum wage to be a living wage. People have generated this perception by making assumptions that, among other industries, the hospitality industry makes a considerable profit. This assumption is wrong because the hotels create a substantial profit.
The organization has to make sure that they prevent the employees’ turnover in the hospitality industry. The organization can do this by;
Communicating clearly about the job vacancy so that the workers are aware of what they expect from the organization. The team conducting job interviews should inform the workers both the negative and positive parts of the job effectively. This will make the employees not to quit the job and searching for another since they are offered what they were promised.
The organization should also ensure that there is a good connection between the top management and the workers. Such a relationship will make both the managers and workers to interact effectively and make the company productive. In case there is a manager who is implementing some poor managerial skills, he or she should be sacked. Sacking such managers will prevent the employees from quitting the job since there will be no one who is exploiting them in the workplace.
To ensure that the hospitality industry grows and becomes effective, the organizations should have a transparent schedule system. This system will make the workers aware of what to do and what they should have achieved in that particular period. This will enable an active policy of work since many personnel doesn’t like assigning jobs at the last minute. The system will favor employees by offering a day-off or a week, depending on the policy of the organization. Such offers will motivate them and make them participate in the goals.
