Genetic Engineering Example one

Genetic engineering is the collection of technologies that influence organism. Genetic engineering is the technology that is used to change the genetic makeup of an organism. Gene is the basis of life. Gene is made-up of chromosomes: Y and X chromosome. Traits are normally passed from the parents to offspring through genetics (Morgan pg 7). Organisms produced through genetic engineering are known as; Modified Genetic Organisms (GMOs)

There are various examples of genetic engineering. Firstly, the existence of fast-growing trees. The tall trees are crossed with small ones to produce those trees, which are resistant to adverse weather conditions. The offspring are accustomed to unfavorable conditions such as; the dry period. During the dry spell, those trees that are brought- up through genetic engineering are evergreen. Those trees are also resistant to diseases such as; Phytophthora and Anthracnose. Phytophthora interferes with the rooting system leading to falling of trees. On the other side, Anthracnose interferes with the leaf system hence the trees are not able to manufacture their food through photosynthesis. The common disease like Phytophthora and Anthracnose lowers the yield and the quality of trees. Genetic engineered trees are also resistant to pests such as; Asian Longhorn Beetle and Black Turpentine Beetle.

The emergence of genetically modified trees has led to an increased demand for commercialization of trees. The commercialization has immense benefits to the farmers because genetically modified trees grow fast. Thus, they can easily meet consumer’s tastes and preferences. Moreover, trees have created an employment opportunity to the people who cut them. In turn, the economy level is growing considerably because both farmers and the workers are benefiting mutually.

Example Two

The existence of strong and health breeds of animals

Genetic engineering of animals has led to the existence of healthy and robust offspring’s. When crossbreeding is done, the resultant young ones are resistant to a particular climatic condition. Those offspring are defiant to disease such as; Anthrax, Mange, and Mastitis. Anthrax affects cows in common which in turn leads to the death. There is also Mange, a disease that makes a cow to lose fur on its body, a situation that leads to low quality of skin and hides. Once animals are genetically modified, they grow fast and mature early. Cows also produce quality milk and at a substantial amount.

Besides, there is an existence of featherless chicken: they are not different from the others only that they do not have feathers (Morgan pg 22). These chicken hatches many eggs and are resistant to diseases. On top of that, there is also the existence of layers and broilers. Broilers produce high quantity meat and a quality one.

Ultimately, the engineering is a success because every organism which is heritably modified usually of essential significances. Example, genetically modified organism is crucial to the farmer because are resistant to diseases, hence the farmer will minimize cost and maximize profit. The heritably modified organisms are also of significant advantage because they grow faster and mature early. Thus, escape diseases that might affect them when they are young.
