Homeland Security Grant Programs
Preparedness against emergencies is a crucial step towards the safety of society. This involves both emergencies of terrorism and natural disasters. Lack of readiness for this may result from loss of lives through both terrorism and natural disasters such as floods and hurricanes. The US has taken a significant step towards managing these types of emergencies. However, there is a need to add more funding. This paper will discuss the most appropriate financing for fighting against terrorism in the local society and also why the funding is not enough for the community.
The tribal homeland security grant program is the best program to deal with local terrorism. Tribal homeland security grant programs are funds that are meant to boost US tribal abilities to deal with terrorism. This can be done by preparing, protecting against, and responding to acts of terrorism. The funding provides the best option for fighting local terrorism because of its aims. One of the objectives of the funding is that it involves the whole community at large to advance their security and emergency preparedness. The fund also works to promote togetherness among the governments of local, regional, and state. This funding is essential because it makes everyone in the community to be part of the team by preparing them all. This shows that everyone in the community is responsible, which makes fighting local terrorism simple due to working together.
The funding provided to the recipients is not sufficient. This is because the funding they receive is only enough for preparing and protecting against terrorist attacks. This means that the funding is not enough for preparedness against disaster and other natural emergencies since people in the US have experienced natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes (Senate, 2011). Such crises have not been attended to since the only available funding is meant for counter-terrorism. The preparedness against natural disasters is different from the preparedness against terrorism. The preparedness against disasters is by planning for evacuation and accumulation of equipment and water and food. The preparation against terrorism, on the other hand, is by putting in place security barriers and counterintelligence. This shows that there is no preparedness against natural disasters.
