Alarm on the Food Industry
Information on a proper diet is critical for the growth of a healthy nation. Since 1942, Canada has relied on data from “Canada’s food guide.” There has been significant transformation on the rules set out in the guide. The news report of 24th January 2019 aims at raising the concern of the rules set out on the guide towards the food industry. It claims that the original food guide has been replaced by the “health Canada” which is concerning the food industry. The article, however, leaves a lot to be criticized both positively and negatively. The first catchy impression from the topic is immediately changed by lack of balance in the points raised as well as the missing connection between the given arguments.
A very welcoming topic introduces the reader. As expected, a topic should be captivating to the reader, (Zahra, 2016). A reader will be interested in seeing the kind of alarm being referred to and at least with concrete evidence behind it. The presentation of ideas is in such a way that every point leaves a particular dilemma that appears to rely on the next idea to be solved. For example, a point is raised on how the recent guide will affect the food industry and impact the Canadians’ health. The point, however, leaves questions which compel the reader to move on and check for answers from the next points. The strategy, however, leaves several gaps in the presentation of ideas as seen in the next paragraph.
There are missing connections on the presentation of ideas. The effect on the food industry and impact on Canadians’ health are two points that should be given two separate headings. The article treats these two as a single point which limits the weight that should be placed on the two. There is a lack of clarity when supporting the position because the background information is on different paragraphs and there is no proper connection between the point and its support. Lack of connection is made worse by the next discussed point that there is a lack of adequate balance in the points.
There is a lack of balance in the way that points are elaborated. The article seems to be based on the effect of the new guide to the food industry as well as the health of Canadians. Going through the whole document, however, makes one think that the paper is only about the effect on Canadians’ health. The lack of background information about how the new guide affects the food industry leads to the said imbalance. Background information is always relevant in any analysis, (Bao, H., Peng, Y. , 2016).
In conclusion, the news report does not efficiently pass the intended knowledge. It tries to capture the attention of the readers but fails to provide adequate background information to support the arguments. The points raised are lacking proper connection in the manner of their presentation. If these weaknesses are dealt with, it will be a great article.
