Neuropsychology Motivation Letter
I am writing to apply for a master’s degree in psychology at Utrecht University, specializing in the field of neuropsychology.
Notably, I am interested in the master’s program because the academic portfolio of the department corresponds with my interests. I developed a particular interest in the fields of clinical and cognitive neuropsychology during my undergraduate studies. I graduated with first-class honors regardless of the challenges of studying in a distance learning course. I have such a strong desire to pursue a course in psychology that nothing could stop me.
I want to improve my academic skills by pursuing a master’s in neuropsychology. I cannot imagine a better place for me to pursue my dreams than at Utrecht University. The lecturers who teach the neuropsychology masters program work in clinical practice. Most of them also participate in cognitive research at the University. Thus, I believe that they have the skills and expertise to help me fulfill my goals. The university also motivates students to work as multidisciplinary teams. They allow collaboration with students from other behavioral and medical careers. Working as multidisciplinary teams helps students to share knowledge and learn from one another.
My fascination with neuropsychology increased after my mother suffered from brain bleeding. She lost multiple cognitive functions, and this made me realize I had to help those who underwent similar experiences. During my visits to the hospital, I also discovered that therapies play a significant role in recovery. Besides, during my undergraduate studies, I learned that non-invasive brain imaging and psychometrics are essential in detecting impaired brain functions. These experiences made me realize that I had a strong need to help other people, just like my mother was helped.
I would also like to study at Utrecht University because their program gives a chance for students to gain the skills and knowledge needed to diagnose and treat cognitive disorders. They transform students into professionals who can use current and functional scientific models to innovate methods of assessing and treating brain dysfunctions. They also expose their students with internship programs that help to apply their theoretical knowledge. They ensure the students experience working in multidisciplinary teams during the internship. The institution also allows students to conduct neuropsychology research that helps them to fulfill their academic curiosity.
After graduating from this master’s program, I plan to engage in clinical practice for two years to grow my skills and knowledge. Motivated by my lifetime desire to understand human psychology and solve problems that lead to cognitive dysfunction, I am focused on pursuing this career. I will also continue conducting my research, which can contribute to some positive changes in the field. I hope with my previous knowledge and motivation, I will secure a place in your institution.
