SRHR are suitable for Help a Child Y&W approach as a crosscutting issue.
Background
Help a Child (HAC) implements integrated child centered community development projects (CCCD) in mainly rural poor areas of a selected number of countries. By implementing these projects HAC wants to contribute to the improvement of the well-being of vulnerable children and their households.
A special target group within the communities are the Youth (age between 15 – 35 years). Via our Self Help Group (SHG) Approach we have made a special program for this age group. With special focus on being the – new to come – parents and economic development. So far we lack focus on Sexual Reproductive Health with the Youth and Work approach. Help a Child wants to have research on which thematic areas are currently lacking for this age groups ( 15 – 35 year) but are important to mainstream as cross cutting issue within the community development projects.
The assignment Questions
Over the years of course SRHR has been mainstreamed, so one of the first research questions will be:[unique_solution]
- Which topics within SRHR have been used so far within Help a Child Community Development projects. Make an inventory of used topics, where and when they have been discussed
- Research question two: What can we learn from recent (2017 – 2020) internal and external evaluations regarding the SRHR mainstreaming within our community development projects.
From a broader perspective Help a Child is interested to know the background of why and which topics are mainstreamed by likewise organizations.
- Do some literature study on why we should mainstream SRHR within our community development programming and why especially Help a Child needs to focus on specific topics within SRHR. A good starting point can be to read chapter 9 “ Handle with care” , from the book “ For the twig to blossom” , of Henk Jochemsen.
- With the findings above and with the input of Help a Child expert team work on a policy on SRHR for Youth and Work.
- Do research on tools which can be used in the programs in the field for the selected SRHR topics for Help a Child.
- Close with recommendations you want to give to Help a Child, which you think are important for the wellbeing of our beneficiaries and for our organization.
The assignment tools
The assignment involves both a literature study, initial interviews and the use of a questionnaire to collect data.
- The literature study will especially relate to the different topics within SRHR in areas of Africa and India as well as the collection of data on what is done in development projects of HaC so far and what methodology is used.
- For omission data, interviews or questionnaires can be used to collect relevant data.
- The study can be further enriched by having interviews with Help a Child colleagues from different parts within the organization.
The content of the report
- The report will briefly start with a description of important definitions/ concepts related to SRHR in rural areas of Sub Sahara Africa and north east India.
- The report will describe what literature (and other sources of information) tell about the best practices to involve and impact of mainstreaming SRHR.( See research question 3).
- The report will continue with an analysis of the data collected from projects on if and how SRHR have been mainstreamed in recent years (research question 1&2).
- The final part of the report will be conclusions with regards to the involvement and impact of mainstreaming SRHR within HaC programming. Why do HaC have been chosen certain topics within SRHR and how do HaC wants to implement these? (policy & tools) ( research question 4 & 5& 6)
The report is expected to be concise and clearly written in English. Depending on the number of graphs or tables included it is expected to consist of 40-60 pages.
Time-frame
The whole assignment will take place between the beginning of February and end of May 2020 (17 weeks, also see contract with Precious Aturu).
Support and provisions from HAC
HAC will provide supervision and assessment support for the intern as agreed in the contract with Windesheim and the intern. The progress assignment will be assessed at certain intervals (agreed upon with the intern) to make sure that the assignment within the available time and according to required quality requirements.
