Reflective Essay:The concept of Intelligence

In my essay ‘The concept of Intelligence’, I explained that due to the fact that all the people generally have different concepts about themselves, it has been hard to generalize the definition of intelligence. I also explained that different scholars who have tried to come up with the meaning have not been able to come up with a definite definition of intelligence. However, my revision involves the fact that although there has been a lot of unresponsiveness around the concept of intelligence, Hans Eysenck in his book ‘The concept of Intelligence: useful or useless’ explained that intelligence doesn’t need to be defined with a single concept because it exhibits a lot of aspects on a general scale. He explains that all the concepts regarding intelligence that has been reached to are useful depending on the central concept.

I also disagree and change my initial post in the essay that intelligence is about the skills and knowledge you acquire and apply. This is because, according to Eysenck, intelligence is not just about the concepts, skills and knowledge people acquire and apply, it’s also majors on the threefold nature of intelligence that must be proved whenever the concept has been upheld (Eysenck, 1998). Further, I made a correction on the example I gave to explain the concept of intelligence, in fact, having a change in this example, will make it clearer to explain the change of concept major from the one I had written to the aspect briefed by Eysenck. This however does not mean that I nullified Robert Sternberg’s suggestion, however, having both concepts of intelligence makes it clear on the part where it said that as a result of these concepts of the same thing, numerous researchers take different approaches to defining intelligence. Also, there is a grammatical error in the fourth paragraph the last line, whereby I wrote ‘note’ instead of ‘not’. There is also a grammatical error in the last paragraph the second last line, whereby I wrote ‘resemblance of’ instead of ‘resemblance to’. Also, in the second last line on the second last paragraph, where I wrote ‘Thus, as’ while the word ’Thus, like’ should have fit the sentence composition perfectly. I would like to change by the general concept in the conclusion this is because, I now think that intelligence has more potential of having a better correspondent and that the many definitions of intelligence introduced in many types of research all have a true possibility.

This semester in EH 101S, I have learned a lot especially on the concept about writing. Compared to my initial essays and works, I have definitely gained a lot of experience. For example, I can now develop a full rhetorical analysis from scratch, an aspect I didn’t know. In fact, I used to really fear this kind of works because they needed a lot of efforts just to pull over a single page together. Am also well versed with researchers and how to incorporate information from different sources to my work. An example is how I did my research in ‘My struggle as a writer’. Having this kind of skills have helped me in other things outside of the academic picture. I have learned the aspects of learning, reading and writing and has made major changes in how I do all of them. Nowadays, my readings and writing practices are different for example, I can spend just a few of my time reading something am sure about rather than taking a lot of time that does not help my learning experience. At the level I am at, I can say that a lot of the concepts that I gained in this semester I have made good use of them so far. All that I have learned will also help me when writing other forms of analysis in other courses of studies or in my general career.

I think that the revision changes in made in my previous essay all play a role in makes my final work better. For instance, including the concept by Hans Eysenck helps in creating a solid argument about the concept of intelligence. Including this source in the essay also made me change some concepts that I had and managed to get the correct prospect in accordance with my understanding. Also, the grammatical errors that I corrected such as ‘thus, as’, ‘not’ and ‘resemblance to’ all makes the essay presentable and correspondent with what is being talked about.

As I conclude, the things that I have learned are a reflection of the general information I gained in this semester. I have also used these aspects in most of the things I do outside class especially those involving writing, reading, researching or analysis. I have also transitioned and gained a lot of experience since the day I started this semester.
