Food Safety and Sanitation
Food is one of the most basic physiological needs of a human being. People work tirelessly throughout their entire lives to get sufficient resources for buying food as well as sustaining their lives. Scholars argued that despite the benefits that food brings to our health, if not keenly handled, the food we consume may have a significant effect on our gastrointestinal health. The scholar further argued that the safety of the food constitutes preparations, handling, and storage. When improperly handled, prepared, or stored, food may cause numerous gastrointestinal diseases. Mishandled food may be responsible for transmitting pathogens that lead to ill health to human beings. The most common types of pathogens that may lead to human ill health include a virus, bacteria, molds, and fungi. When the pathogens get in contact with the gastrointestinal systems, they end up invading some other regions of the human body via the bloodstream and may lead to life-threatening adverse conditions by producing various harmful toxins. This, therefore, means that people should attach attention to the safety and sanitation of the food that they consume. Cholera, Taeniasis, Hepatitis A, Botulism, and Salmonellosis are some of the common gastrointestinal related diseases that are caused by the consumption of contaminated foods.
