Self-discipline as the key to happiness
A study by German and American psychologists has proven that people with high self-discipline are more positive, happier and more successful in life. They scored better in the study of their sense of happiness than those who claimed to have no sacrifices in life.
The virtue of self-discipline accompanies practicing Muslims not only during Ramadan, but also with the small questions of everyday life: Will I rather drink water than alcohol? Instead of going to the club, would I rather go to bed early? Give myself instinctively to a partner or rather wait for a marriage? Instead of falling for the current events, why not withdraw from them and pray?
Self-discipline manifests itself in occasionally postponing acute impulses and needs in order to achieve another (a personally more important) goal.
It is a form of freedom and a way to integrity not to give in to every desire, but to make conscious and reflected decisions. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
It was also evident that self-disciplined people have long-term goals in mind and feel satisfaction when they achieve them. Self-control also has an effect on the personality: Self-confidence, stress resistance and social competence are attributes that could be associated with self-discipline.
“You are the best community that was created for people. You command the good and you forbid the bad.” (3:110)
“And the faithful, men and women, are each other’s friends. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and establish regular prayer and pay the tax, and obey Allah and His Messenger. They – verily Allah has mercy on them. Behold, Allah is mighty and wise.” (9:71)
“And if one does what is right, whether male or female, and is a believer, we will certainly be resurrected to a good life one day” (16:97).
“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, and acts righteously,- on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. (5:69)
“You my servants, who have not been disciplined against yourselves. Do not give up hope in the mercy of Allah! Allah forgives you all your trespasses. It is He Who is merciful and ready to forgive.” (39:54)
Laughter
The probably most uncomplicated way to produce endorphins is to smile and laugh. The happiness hormones euphorise, have an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect. Stress hormones are also broken down.
The Prophet Muhammad, God’s blessing and peace be upon him, said: “Think not of a good deed they be small, even if you only greet your brother with a cheerful smile.
(Sahih Muslim)
Abdullaah ibn Haarith said, “I have never met a person who has smiled as much as the Prophet Muhammad. The Prophet Muhammad considered a brother’s smile a charitable act.”
(Tirmidhi)
Jarir ibn Abdullah said, “The Messenger of God has never refused me permission to see him since I accepted Islam, and has only looked at me with a smile (on my face). (Sahih Muslim)
“Smiling in your brother’s face is a charity in your favor.” (Sahih Bukhari)
