7 lessons I learned after attending TedxBankipur

The line which comes to mind when anyone think of Tedx is –

“Come for amazing experience, wait for interactive conversations, stay for ideas sharing, but leave with a bag full of ideas”

Tedx is an event where speakers from diverse background comes to share an idea which is worth sharing with the world. The whole concept of Tedx lies in “Ideas worth spreading”. Ideas are powerful, and anyone can reap the benefit of this small thing in just few minutes – just by listening to 5-15 minutes of short speech by them.

I attended the TedxBankipur in 2018 (Date – 29th July 2018) with the theme of – “Figuring out why?”. There were speakers from different walks of sphere such as Abhyanand, an IPS officer and educationist, who conceptualised Super 30 to teach poor students. He shared about the flaw in modern pedagogy and what changes can be brought in learning process. Anjali Singh, a Radio Jockey, who has received accolades in the field of Indian media promotion, shared how she take the idea and talking pointers from the small things from our surrounding.

Mukesh Hissaria, a businessman and social activist, shared his story of coming up with the idea of Virtual Blood Bank. He shared the struggles and challenges faced. Such stories pave the path for future learnings.

Other speakers were Pawan Too, a cartoonist, who beautifully depicted that a picture is worth thousand words. He showed that life of common people, their aspirations, wishes, and opinions can be easily spread among mass through simple cartoons. Looking at a carton takes seconds, but minutes of message is captured in the mind of viewer. Ritu Jaiswal, Gram Panchayat Mukhiya, has done phenomenal work in rural areas. She explained her story of coming out of comfort zone to reach out to lower strata and so that change in poor’s life can be brought up. There were other speakers such as Shashank Kumar, an entrepreneur, who co-founded Green Agrevolution.

It was an inspiring session and it was a realization that it can benefit audience in following ways –

1. Networking – If we attend a meet instead of just watching it online, we can personally meet the speakers which can spark to newer ideas. Sitting in the audience will automatically pave way for connection with them too. One may never realize that one may find mentor, coach, team mate, friend or even a fiancée in the audience.
2. New possibilities – Many a times, there are some inspiring quote by a speaker that inspire our thinking. It may result into opening a new path for our life (without even realizing it).
3. Experience sharing – There are two ways to learn from life – first, face it on your own and second, learn from others experience. Attending Tedx meet allows us to listen to what others go through and what strategy worked for them. It can be utilized for our life also.
4. Broadening mindset – Listening to speakers who are coming from varied sectors help us know what is happening at world level which help in building a wider thinking capacity.
5. Get inspiration – The journey of speaker shows that everyone has their own destiny and we all are destined to be the best of ourselves. Listening to them fills us with spirit to do something.
6. Just act – It is widely said that a journey of thousand miles starts with a single step and after listening to accomplished people, it becomes a fact that problems are in everyone’s life but the differentiating factor was that – they act and many didn’t.
7. World is there to support – All the speakers told the story that while they were struggling, they seek for help and they always get it (sooner or later).

The best part about Tedx is everyone can have their own lessons, learnings and take aways. We just need to visit it and the thinking will start the moment we will exit the door of Tedx.
