my early childhood development journey
The choice to use a timeline to explain my early childhood development journey has been influenced by a clear and systematic ability to analyze and study the history of a person. Timeline offers a step by step stages of events that are indicated by years, and they demonstrate the most valuable experiences a person has gone through to be a person he/she is today. The earliest adventures of a child have a significant influence on his later life because this is the stage where their view and perception of the world start to develop simultaneously. The time will offer a piece of more transparent information on the early my early life as a child and what essential events marked my development.
The diagram above offers an insight into my life as a child and the different phases I had to undergo as I was growing up. The timeline shows what I would call a typical development many children pass through when trying to familiarize themselves with the environment. Case in point, the first-year shows when I start to comprehend the social life around me, and I can choose the kind of toys that look appealing. Comparison is very critical in this age because one starts to pick one thing to another. At this age, the child’s cognitive ability is developing very fast and going to the second year, I became very selective on the kind of food I would consume, and I would cry even at dinner time for candy. This is the time that my dad got so furious with me, and he punished me in a timeout. According to Emmett, “Parents should be reassured that choosiness is normal and to continue to provide a variety of foods.” The statement shows that this particular behavior was typical, and a more professional approach could have been used than punishing a child. The next phase was accompanied by fantasy and imagination, which for me, was influenced by the fact I used to watch a lot of cartoons. I had pressured my parents for a bicycle, and when I got it, I could ride in the backyard every chance I got. The imagination about the world around me was starting to take shape gradually.
The early life of a child plays a vital role in determining the person and the choices they make later in life. The ecological systems theory by Bronfenbrenner explores the idea of how a child’s brain development affected their immediate surrounding, which is mainly by their family members, neighbors, or their classmates. Two main theories have an impact on my timeline from the day a child is born until when they are six years old, which are microsystem and mesosystem. The microsystem involves the most immediate environment that a child encounters after they are born, which consists of the home or daycare. The interaction with family members, classmates, or caregivers directly affects how the child will grow. Children on the microsystem will react to other children depending on the kind of treatment they get back. In the microsystem, it is essential for the interaction with a child to be supportive and engaging, which will improve the development of a child positively. The mesosystem is the surrounding environment influences the next component in the ecological system that points out a child development. The surrounding environment may include mass media or the extended family. At this stage, the child social interaction is a reality, and they have to grasp the idea of how they are supposed to behave and talk to different people and things. Mesosystems tend to be diverse such as some ca be long-lasting like living with one’s extended family while others like a neighborhood can be considered temporary.
