Childhood and youth

Calvin Broadus, and this is what the real name of the famous rapper sounds like, was born in 1971 in the city of Long Beach. The cute Peanuts comic dog is the musician’s favorite character. Mother called Kelvin after the cartoon character. The nickname assigned to the boy, and later, years later, turned into a music brand.

Snoop has two brothers. My father fought in Vietnam, left the family three months after the birth of Kelvin. A grandfather looked after a restless boy in the absence of his mother. Later, becoming a star, Snoop admitted that he could benefit from a lack of fatherly attention. Bitter experience taught the musician not to make parental mistakes, helped to become a wonderful father.

Snoop learned the basics of vocals in a church choir. But this does not mean that a humble and amiable disposition distinguished the future rapper. An uncontrollable teenager was not affected by either parental guidance or choral singing. Not surprisingly, Kelvin grew up in the criminal quarter.

The influential producer listened to the demo tape, after which he took Kelvin into his custody. In 1992, the film Undercover was released, Snoop Dogg wrote the soundtrack of which. Two years later, the first album was released. Then the guy with a criminal past and gained popularity. The Chronic is a collaboration between Calvin Broadus and Dr Dre. The album includes songs in the genre of the so-called gangster funk – a musical direction, in the development of which Snoop Dog played the leading role.

Gin & Juice from the debut album has become a hip hop classic. And then in the life of the rap artist there was a case that raised his rating. The musician was arrested on murder charges. Later it turned out that the guard of Snoop shot Philip Voldemarium and did it for self-defense. From the rapper charges were dropped. But this incident was discussed for a long time, the photo of the debutant flashed in the press. Snoop’s popularity grew. The idol of African-American youth for several months occupied the first lines of the charts.

In 1996, an album dedicated to Tupac released. The pseudonym Snoop Dogg received the official status after signing a contract with No Limit Records. On the label of the famous record company, the rapper recorded three albums.

In 2000, Dr Dre released the single “The net Episode”, which included in the second studio album. Snoop and his brother Nate took part in the recording. The composition ends with the words of the latter: “Smoke Weed Everyday”, and therefore it is mistakenly called “Smoke View Evry Day”.

In 2004, Snoop Dogg played in the movie Starsky and Hutch. Two years later, he recorded two songs that brought a Grammy. Snoop did not forget about the past connected with the Crips gang: in 2005 he recorded a single dedicated to the leader of a criminal organization.

Even becoming famous, the rapper did not seek to find a common language with law enforcement agencies. In 2006, Snoop quarreled with the police at the airport. What excited the star that day is unknown. Together with friends, he tried to get into the VIP-hall. However, security blocked the access of a too noisy company. They did not think of anything else how to go to Duty-Free and break some bottles of elite alcohol.

In 2012, Calvin Broadus took on a new creative pseudonym. Now he is Snoop Lyon. However, fans still call him Snoop Dogg. The singer decided to use the original image after he visited Jamaica and joined the Rastafari movement. The genres of hip-hop and gangsta rap music, Snoop changed to reggae and introduced fans a new hit “JA JA JA”.

Among the popular songs that Snoop created with other musicians, there is a duet with French DJ David Gett “Wet”. The track started from the first lines of international rap charts. Another joint with Visa Khalifa and Bruno Mars, the single “Young, Wild & Free” also received high Billboard Hot 100 ratings and a Grammy nomination. Even though three musicians recorded the song, Bruno Mars did not participate in the filming of the video. Often the rapper had to perform together with Eminem at national concerts. Later, the musician spoke highly of the work of his colleague, calling him “the hope of white America.”

In the summer of 2014, a video for the song “Pharrel” appeared on the web. The composition was intended for the new album, which was produced by Farrell Williams . A year later, two singles were released. One of them was called “So Many Pros” and entered the album “Bush”, which released in the spring of 2015. Stevie Wonder and other famous representatives of the rhythm and blues genre participated in the recording. Critics greeted Snoop’s 13th solo discography album positively.

Snoop is a person who is at odds with the law. This is the stage image. The famous rapper is an exemplary family man. Calvin married Shant Taylor in the mid-90s. He met her in childhood. Snoop plays basketball from an early age. Perhaps thanks to the sport, their romance began. Shantha was a fan of the team, of which her future husband was a member. Already in those years, Snoop was tall (192 cm with a weight of 85 kg).

In 1994, the rapper became a father: the son of Corde was born. Three years later, Cordell was born, in 199 – the daughter of Corey. The girl diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease – lupus erythematosus. According to his father, despite the disease, Corey remains a cheerful and agile child. Snoop once admitted to reporters that because of the concerts he sorely lacks time to communicate with children, nevertheless, he tries to devote every free minute to his family. The California city of Clermont chosen as the place to live by Snoop and Shant.

Later, the singer’s wife registered the brand Co Co Ri, which produces designer sportswear. Kelvin and Shantha Broadus sell T-shirts and sweatshirts with the Snoop Dogg logo through an online store. The rapper’s wife also owns the Boss Lady Entertainment label. As a manager, the woman worked with rap artist The Lady of Rage.

The famous rapper collects cars, does charity work. The singer attends basketball games. Among the teams the musician is rooting for are the Los Angeles Lakers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The dog also surprised fans with a video clip for the song “Lavender”. On the screen, Snoop shot a clown dressed as Donald Trump from a toy gun. The musician borrowed the song from the Canadian band Bad Bad Not Good, which he created a remix with the beatmaker Kaytranada.

In August, on a personal account on Instagram, the artist announced the cookbook “From Crook to Cook”, which will release in the fall of 2018. The collection will consist of 50 recipes for all occasions, including the musician’s favorite drink – the Gin and Juice cocktail.
