Childhood obesity is among the major health issues encountered at a higher rate in the American society. Many children have developed the norm of not taking part in physical activity and high consumption of sugary foods, therefore, stirring the prevalent occurrence of this health problem. According to this statement, grim statistics have shown the impacts of such practices in which there is approximately one-third of obese individuals in contemporary American society. For future measures, there is a need to recognize that athletics in schools help prevent childhood obesity.
In trying to establish the truth on how athletics in schools help prevent childhood obesity, well-designed research will be conducted using three major questions. How many days during the past week did you take part in moderate physical activity (for not less than ten minutes) that led to a small increase in your heart rate or breathing? How many days during the past week did you take part in vigorous physical activity, such as basketball, soccer, mountain climbing, running, or any other (for not less than ten minutes) that led to a considerable increase in your heart rate or breathing? And how many days during the past week did you sit and watched television or computers?
Furthermore, the target audience of the research will be all parents, educational planners, teachers, and students at Polk State College. Besides, the development plan of the research will be the measurement of the height and weight of the participants. Height measure will be obtained by using GL-6000-20 scales and SECA 225 height rods, while waist circumference will help get the weight through the use of non-elastic tape. The measurements of this development plan will then be defined by Body Mass Index (BMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) through the established standards of the World Health Organization.
In conclusion, athletics in schools help prevent childhood obesity. A research design that will formulate the truth in this statement will make use of three major relevant questions. Also, this research will target all parents, educational planners, teachers, and students at Polk State College, whereby height and weight will form the development plan.
