Literature

Bruce Perry has done considerable research on this topic. He is an authority on brain development and children in crisis as he has done detailed research on this topic. According to the Perry sensitive brain of an infant and young child is very sensitive and delicate. Powerful experiences can badly affect the usual functioning of a child brain as traumatic experiences such as deliberate neglecting attitude of parents can really affect the emotional development of the child (Bertone-Johnson ER, Whitcomb BW, Missmer SA, Karlson EW, Rich-Edwards JW, 2012). Studies and clinical experience also show that childhood abuse and neglect can impact a child’s emotional development. Bruce Perry has told that neglected children show symptoms of post traumatic disorder in their adulthood. In addition to that, they also have to solve various kinds of traumatic issues affecting their lives in their adulthood.  Lack of emotional attachment in their childhood affects their relationship in their adulthood ( Danese A, Moffitt TE, Harrington H, Milne B J, Polanczyk G, et al. 2009). These kinds of people also face problem of fear in their adulthood which makes their life miserable.

Young kids are naturally curious, playful and joyful. They want to discover the world through their own eyes and experiences. However, their nature is badly damaged if their parents fail to attend, validate, treasure, and love their joyful. The neglecting attitude of their parents damage and squash their spirit. Neglectful parents use humiliations and shame to avoid love of their children. Therefore, this behavior creates negative behaviors of loneliness and humiliation in the kids. The late Swiss psychologist Alice Miller believes that it still difficult to know the nature of kids who don’t have to face neglectful and abusive parents. Parents of these kinds of kids are very respectful and kind as compared to above-mentioned abusive and neglectful parents. The popularization of the social media such as YouTube and Facebook has helped us to know the future of children better who are facing neglectful and abusive parents. Psychologists must use empathy and nurturing to help these neglected kids to come out of their bad state of mind (Leeb RT, Lewis T, Zolotor ,AJ 2011).

Conclusion

Child abuse and neglect leaves a long-term impact on family, future generations and children. In addition it is also very important to create and develop protective programs and to implement legal procedures. Moreover, it is very important to use additional training and research techniques to avoid child abuse or neglect. The health care experts should keep in mind that effective programs always support and teach optimistic parenting skills. The effective programs always help in preventing child abuse and they also improve parent-child relationships in the given family environment. This kind of family environment is very conducive for creating good relationships among child and parents. Nurses have a key role to play in identifying, treating and referring cases of abuse and neglect as well as reporting suspected cases of maltreatment to the appropriate authorities. Hawaii’s healthy start program ( HSP) and Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) are two most influential health care programs in the America. The prevention of child neglect through these programs have very good capability of affecting other types of  violence over the lives of people. The above mentioned programs also help in controlling risk factors influencing the child abuse and neglect within the family and society. Child support and nursing programs must also focus on creating training programs to promote future research in the field of psychoanalysis.
