Health care reforms such as the Obama care (ACA) advocate and empower APRNs and DNPs to expand their scope in offering leadership at different organizational levels. In so doing, nurses broaden the application of evidence in improving patient safety. The project, in this case, employs a qualitative approach as it offers greater flexibility in the collection of complex data that might be crucial in impacting the overall outcome. In an endeavor to understand the role of nurse leadership, attention is directed towards the analysis of two articles below.

Gardner et al. (2016) analyze the impact of nurses applying evidence onto their work and the possibility of establishing a formality whereby nurses can pursue a scholarship approach to uncovering evidence through the Nursing Journal Club (NJC). The authors inform that the club began as a part-time affair but was later formalized as a way for nurses to focus on establishing new evidence to improve the quality of care and safety guaranteed to the patient. The article explains that new nurses would take advantage of new academic centers and would then establish the club and its doctrines such that these institutions had a structure similar to that of the council.

The article presents an array of strengths. For instance, it delves deep into the subject of leadership and the application of evidence into practice to increase the safety of care. The authors also make it apparent that NJC was gradually expanding and was now formalized for institutions to establish the structures of the initial council. Such an outcome emphasizes the success of NJC in championing for the application of evidence to offer great leadership in healthcare solutions. Such clubs can be applied to increase patient education regarding the essence of MMR vaccinations. The only weakness in the article remains the failure to mention the spread of NJC.

Sepahvand, Shoorideh, Parvizy & Tafreshi, (2019) study the aspects influencing nurse perceived organizational commitment. Committed nurses often become great leaders due to dedication. The qualitative study involved 16 nurses for five months. Semi-structured interviews were used as the primary method of data collection. The results highlighted a few themes impacting nurse commitment, including occupational challenges, organizational factors and contributory management.

The article showcases an array of strengths, including the use of semi-structured interviews, which offer a greater way to collect data as the respondent can provide extensive reasoning. Applicants were also randomly selected, which increases the degree of freedom in the exercise alongside observing high ethical values. The study also employs qualitative content analysis offers insight into the historical and cultural aspect of research such that past success can be transformed into organizational culture. The use of Lincoln and Guba criteria also increases the accuracy of the findings.

The two articles offer a new understanding regarding the practice of applying evidence to offer better leadership in nursing. The establishment of NJC establishes a platform for nurses to challenge their academic prowess to develop, share and critique new evidence. Such clubs could establish new evidence or provide a rationale to educate the public regarding existing evidence such as the risks and advantages of MMR vaccination. Nursing commitment also highlights a new way of understanding the dynamics in nursing. Improving organizational factors such as management and occupational challenges could create time for nurses to conduct more research regarding the application of evidence to improve care delivery
