The Alchemists’ Case
Introduction
In the chapter Dig Where You Are by Doyal’s, Light’s Four Components Entrepreneurship has been clearly expressed through The Alchemists. The four components demonstrated include opportunities, entrepreneurs, opportunities, and organizations, which are the components that we have covered in class. Additionally, there is the aspect of social entrepreneurship as well as the shift in social equilibrium.
Four Components of Entrepreneurship from the Alchemist Story
The first component that has been demonstrated is the entrepreneurs, which have been demonstrated through Alchemist creativity and how effective he comes up with organizational goals. The concept aligns with the things that we learned in class. The founding of Dandelion School demonstrates the concept of entrepreneurship, which involves coming up with a business idea. This also brings the next component of the idea, which is to find a way of helping the less fortunate children to become respectable members of society. There is also the component of opportunity, which is finding ways of helping others who need hope. Organization as a component is demonstrated as Alchemist organizes entrepreneurial ideas and the available opportunity to achieve the desired outcome, which is giving hope to children.
Social entrepreneurship
Alchemist’s actions or behaviors are clear descriptions of social entrepreneurial. Social entrepreneurship defines the activities of startup companies as well as entrepreneurs such as Alchemists who come up with ideas and funds as well as implement ideas towards environmental, cultural, and social issues. According to Martin and Osberg (2007), “those who support social entrepreneurship can focus their recourses on building and strengthening a concrete and identifiable field” (30). The entrepreneurial actions of Alchemist are actions that have the transformational benefits to the society, and that is evidenced in the sacrifices made by Lily Yeh. The effect of starting The Dandelion School will see the lives of local children become successful, and that will have a positive impact on society as a whole. These children are not only given the opportunity to learn but also to gain knowledge that will enable them to live better lives and also help others where possible when they grow up.
Social equilibrium Shift
The Alchemist equally demonstrates the concept of social equilibrium shift, and that can be seen when Lily Yeh changes the social life of young children through her The Dandelion School. This describes the notion changes which come from the understanding that equilibrium requires time to change and that a long-term solution to a social problem is the best. Notion connects with the stages, which is now the understanding of the world and how best to come up with a model required to solve a problem. Reading Alchemist clearly shows that there is a need to understand that social problems require some time to be able to fix and successful identification of a possible solution to a social problem calls for envisioning a new future at a particular period. It is from such understanding that social equilibrium can be shifted from a poor society to a middle class or upper-class society. Starting a school may seem to be less effective in the short term; however, in the long term, it offers an outcome that will give the entire society a new face.
Conclusion
I would, therefore, say that The Alchemist offers insightful information that relates directly to the issues we have discussed in class. It is more like a practical aspect of the theory that we have been learning. I feel more informed and ready to put the things we have learned in practice and impact society positively.
