Behavior refers to a manner in which one conducts oneself towards others. People of different personalities vary in terms of behavior (Browning, 2017). The presence of irrational and defiant learners can be part of development in a teacher’s career. In response to this constant defiance, the teacher should be able to understand the learner’s challenges. The creation of an emotional communication system with learners is also a vital technique that can be applied to curb most of these irrational behaviors within the learner’s community (Browning, 2017). This can only be effective through teachers understanding the learner’s moods of the day. For instance, in case a learner is having a bad day, the teacher should consider keeping things at a low-key.

In the case of Toby, behavior modification therapy can be beneficial for the treatment of the defiance disorder that he has. In the front line, Toby’s parents should accompany him for the counseling and behavioral therapy for the creation of a conducive home environment. Teachers are only limited to the reinforcements of what the parents do at home. Some of the measures that can be recommended to Toby’s parents may include making praises and even applying reward menus technique for proper behaviors in cases where their child has done something right. They need to understand that praise is worth it when it is specific and makes the behavior more likely to happen again (Cote &Sparks, 2017). In case of minor misconduct, they should ignore, and through ignorance till the start of positive behavior, a child is taught on what behavior gets you to engage.
