Introduction

Web servers play a significant role in the world of the internet by allowing people to connect to various parts of the globe. They have helped in hosting websites that can be assessed in all locations which have an internet connection. A web server performs the task of processing requests which are sent by the various users in different parts of the world. They have helped in promoting businesses as today, many of the markets is done online. The purpose of the web servers is to offer a platform in which the websites are hosted and thus enable the users to have content on the platform. In this regard, we shall focus on types of web servers, web services as well as their strengths and weakness, among other aspects.

Body

One of the most common web servers around the globe is the Apache Tomcat, which helps in running the Java pager in the server. It is only for running the web applications, and thus it is one of the best servers which can be used in the design of the website (Monrose et al., 2018). It is one of the new servers which have potent capabilities. It is an open-source application that one can easily download over the internet and install it on a computer for use. It can be used in various industries to address the multiple concerns that exist around the world. Many of the applications which exist over the internet use the web servers.

Apache web often referred to as httpd and was launched into the market 1995 and is used in many of the websites that exist in the world. It is run in several operating systems that exist, such as the Linux and Windows (Jazi, Gonzalez, Stakhanova & Ghorbani, 2017). The web server is highly beneficial in the fact that it can be integrated into other projects. The web server uses a modular architecture, and thus extra features are incorporated in the program to help serve its purpose. In this regard, Apache is one of the modern web servers which have helped in solving many problems that exist in the world.

NGINX is another type of web server which was released to the market in 2004. The man goal of the development of this webserver was to solve the C10K problem. The web server is second from Apache in usage around the world. It handles its concurrent sessions through the power of asynchronous architecture. The administrators have highly used the webserver because of the light utilization of the resources. The server is one of the best when it comes to scaling. It can be used as a proxy server to help boost the technological world.

Node.js was written by Ryan and launched into the market in 2009 with a small number of usages. It runs on the JavaScript environment with a small amount of the market position. It is mostly used to run network applications and helps in optimization. In this case, the server has been of great importance in networking environments by ensuring people are served in the best approach.

Web services

A web service is a form of communication that exists between electronic devices through the use of a network. The desperate application depends on web services to be able to get the services that they do not have. One type of web service is the SOAP, which sends messages through a standard protocol. It follows protocol such as the SMTP and can allow may format such as the HTML. REST is another type of web service which has more lightweight. Through the use of web services, communication over the internet has been made much more accessible. In this regard, the web services have made the communication to be more comfortable and faster around the globe (Wittig, Wittig & Whaley, 2016). It is one of the best forms of contact for a business website to be able to respond to queries asked by the customers at different locations.

Strengths and weaknesses of the web servers

One benefit of web services is interoperability, which means they can work outside the private networks. It has been an advantage to the developers by offering non-proprietary regarding solving the problems that they face. The web services favor the business community by providing a mechanism of communication with their customers.

Limitations of the web servers

An increase in traffic on the website results in the many users on the server issuing requests. The site response rate moves down and thus becomes hard to serve the site users to the customers. Servers like other machines may fail and therefore result in denial of services to the customers. Servers are expensive to install, and therefore any business that wishes to install should have enough resources to facilitate the installation process. Despite the many advantages in the web servers in the case of a technical failure, the users cannot be able to access the services from their digital devices.
